C (299792 km/s)

C Short Film

Why Watch? By its full title, C (299,792 km/s) is a bit hard to take in, but the movie itself is sleek with its high concept sci-fi story about a Lt. Commander stealing a weapon of mass destruction. If it belongs to the new genre of 80s homages, it probably belongs at the top of the pile. It’s impressive that Derek Van Gorder was able to make the film without CGI or green screen, opting instead to go old school with miniatures and other dated techniques, but the most laudable element of the film is its dedication to delivering an intriguing plot without betraying its characters with exposition or obviousness. The paralleling educational video is a nice touch as well. Overall, there’s a lot to love here, from the synth soundtrack to the laser-heavy production design. C is a perfect balance of classic form and futuristic function. What will it cost? Only 6 minutes.
