Boiling Point: Let Me Skip It & Quit It
Boiling Point By Robert Fure on September 13, 2010 | Comments (7)I’m a fan of home video. The power to watch movies from the comfort of my own couch is brilliant. When DVD came out, I was all over it. Once Blu-ray players stopped requiring you to sacrifice your first born (who I had already promised to Satan in exchange for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II Soundtrack Cassette tape), I was all about that too. Still am. Perfect HD picture and perfect HD sound in my own home, sweet. All without the hassle of standing in line at the theater, stepping in sticky substances, and suffering through twenty minutes of commercials before the show starts. Wait. Scratch that last one. Some Blu-rays (and DVDs) insist on trying to force trailers, warnings, and advertisements in your face. In the comfort of your own home, remote in hand, you smash the Menu button, jam the Skip button down a thousand times, only to be greeted with a crappy trailer and the text “That operation is not valid here.” Suck it, studio, that’s some bull.
Win Operation: Endgame By Doing Virtually Nothing
Free Stuff By Robert Fure on July 26, 2010 | Comments (23)Not too long ago we showed you the Red Band trailer of a comedy-action flick that is somehow flying under the radar and straight into home-video release. Since we think it is downright criminal that there is so little information for this film, and that a film with such an amazing cast can go this unnoticed and miss out on theaters entirely, we’re going to give you a chance to take a copy home. In fact, we’re so awesome that we’ve got two copies to give away – One Blu-ray and one DVD, so you can pick your poison. So why do you want Operation: Endgame? For starters, let’s look at the cast: Zach Galifianakis, Rob Corddry, Ellen Barkin, Odette Yustman, Maggie Q, Brandon T. Jackson, Emilie de Ravin, Bob Odenkirk, Ving Rhames, Adam Scott, Joe Anderson, and Jeffrey Tambor. That doesn’t even seem like a cast list, it seems like the fantasy guest list for my tea parties.
Weekly DVD Drinking Game: Insomnia
Drinking Games By Kevin Carr on July 16, 2010 | Be the First To CommentWe all know that alcohol is a depressant, so it’s one of those things that if you drink too much of it, you might just fall asleep. And with Christopher Nolan’s Inception sure to be the sleeper hit of the summer, you might be worried about people trying to steal your thoughts while you sleep. The cure for this would be a sure case of insomnia. Fortunately, Christopher Nolan’s Insomnia has hit Blu-ray this week. So after watching Leonardo DiCaprio and company sleep through Inception, come home and knock a few back while you watch Al Pacino have Insomnia.
In all seriousness, I just don’t find vampires that interesting and there haven’t really been any good vampire movies in the last two decades. That said, Daybreakers looked promising. It seemed stylish, had Sam Neil, Ethan Hawke, and Willem Dafoe in it. Definitely a few points in the plus column.

Coroner’s Report: The House of the Devil (Blu-ray)
Features By Robert Fure on February 4, 2010 | Comments (3)You may not have heard of Ti West yet, but it’s become a safe bet that you soon will. West previously has two direct to video, low budget features to his name: The Roost and Trigger Man. If you are familiar with his previous work, it may be because of the slight buzz that came about with The Roost, an ultra-low budget flick that managed to get some fairly big web sites interested in it that got it some decent exposure. I fell for that buzz, watched it, and didn’t get why it was being pimped around.

Discuss: Would You Buy More DVDs If Rentals Were Delayed Four Weeks?
Discussion By Rob Hunter on October 29, 2009 | Comments (17)Basically a new DVD/Blu-ray would be released for sale only both online and on the shelves at Target, Wal-Mart, etc. If you want to see it, you have to buy it… or wait the additional few weeks for the sale-only window to close so you can rent it from your DVD peddler of choice.

Weekend Discussion: The Great DVD Organization Debate
Discussion By David Baxter on August 22, 2009 | Comments (37)Getting the latest blockbuster on Blu-ray can be a great experience once you get things up and running. But the Blu-ray format can be a real pain in the ass sometimes. It’s supposed to be superior technology, but the platform has more bugs, problems and annoyances than DVD ever had.
