Whether you’re trying to avoid the releases this week or augment them with even more movies, Your Alternate Box Office offers some options for movies that would play perfectly alongside of (or instead of) the stuff studios are shoving into the megaplex this weekend. This week features a bunch of lingerie-clad girls killing dragons and giant samurai, the sequel to a wimpy kid’s story, an orphan girl stuck in the middle of the Arab-Israeli conflict (without any lingerie or dragons), and a family’s most intimate secrets made public.

Over the weekend, FSR reader Josh L. dropped me a link to what he called “a very cool animated mashup” that paired the upcoming action barrage The Expendables with some of the most beloved animated characters of the modern era.

Yesterday, Variety published the list of films that have made the cut of 20 for the race to get the Best Animated Feature Oscar. Allow me to break this down for you…

The winning Paranormal Activity continues to roll, and Saw VI will be rolling out, as well as Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant and the reissue of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare before Christmas (in limited release). And we also have Astro Boy.

The Fat Guys cut through Saw VI before taking flight with Amelia and Astro Boy then sinking their teeth into Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant.

The folks at Summit Entertainment have released a new trailer for the upcoming IMAGi entertainment animated adventure Astro Boy via my favorite alien hostile takeover service, Hulu.

As was the case last year, we will be sending our intrepid (and cynical) Rob Hunter to the San Francisco WonderCon to stake things out, make decisive analysis about upcoming movies and, if he’s lucky, offend someone very famous and end up on the evening news.

The first teaser trailer for Summit Entertainment’s Astro Boy has hit the web with a flash of cool CG-animation.

While the fact that Kristen Bell is joining the production of Imagi Entertainment’s upcoming animated flick Astro Boy is very newsworthy, there isn’t much more to tell. So I will post pictures, instead.
