There’s no telling what’s going on in Elia Suleiman’s The Time That Remains, and in rare form, the trailer probably does more to obfuscate any possible plot than it does to enlighten. From the minute we get, it looks sort of like Peter Sellers made a movie about Palestine after discovering trance music. Suleiman’s first feature was the 1990 experimental documentary Introduction to the End of an Argument, but he’s perhaps best known as the director of Divine Intervention which deals with the same subject matter of Remains – the comedic and dramatic and absurd moments of living under the occupation of Palestine.
