A week after this column exploded with over 2,000 words on some 15+ releases, we get some downtime. It’s difficult to say whether it’s the slim pickings on the release schedule or the fact that there were several titles that weren’t received for review. Either way, this should be brief.

The $48 million weekend for Avatar clinches the box office title against all 2009 releases, almost $27 million ahead of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. And it’s far from being finished.

Another weekend, another big haul for Avatar. If James Cameron isn’t king of the box office world right now I don’t know who is.

Merry Christmas, James Cameron! Customers packed the cinemas bigtime to see Alvin, Simon, Theodore, Sherlock and Dr. Watson — but mainly Avatar, which repeated its big haul from last week to earn $75 million for a second weekend in a row topping the box office.

Welcome to a pre-Christmas edition of the REJECT REPORT! We have a crowded next few days in store at the box office. Then on Christmas Day we have Sherlock Holmes, It’s Complicated plus the expanded release of Nine.

Yesterday, Variety published the list of films that have made the cut of 20 for the race to get the Best Animated Feature Oscar. Allow me to break this down for you…
