Vintage Trailer of the Day: West Side Story (1961)
Features By Cole Abaius on May 12, 2011 | Be the First To CommentWest Side Story is a beloved musical, but it also won a ridiculous 10 Oscars (including Best Picture). It was a dominating feature in its day and continues to be. It was the first directorial effort for Jerome Robbins who co-directed with icon Robert Wise (they shared the Best Director award), and it’s full of memorable lines, songs, and moments. Starring Natalie Wood, Rita Moreno, Russ Tamblyn, a few sharks and a few jets – it was a massive New York City production that delayed the demolition of buildings in order to shoot its opening dance sequence (on a spot where the Lincoln Center now stands). It was a bold endeavor that yielded some equally bold results.
And I Said/What About/The Vintage Trailer of the Day?
Features By Cole Abaius on February 17, 2011 | Be the First To CommentEvery day, come rain or shine or internet tubes breaking, Film School Rejects showcases a trailer from the past. I love this trailer. So what? So plenty! Audrey Hepburn fans rejoice as she struggles to find love in wacky, old New York. It’s like Sex and the City before Sex and the City, and it stays for breakfast. There’s nothing like a woman in sunglasses, smoking from an incredibly long cigarette holder, and there’s nothing like Mickey Rooney inexplicably playing an Asian man. Think you know what it is?
