Steve Carell is sort of a big deal. In consecutive years, he has taken two small budget films with a combined budget of $34 million and achieved a box office gross of almost $170 million. Now we get to see what he can do with Evan Almighty, with an almighty budget of $175 million. Reprising his role as God, Morgan Freeman is back in the sequel to Jim Carrey’s Bruce Almighty. The only puzzling thing about the film, is that Carell’s character Evan Baxter was not exactly a good guy in the first film, so how will it work out?
I guess you will have to stay put on Film School Rejects. Will Evan Almighty be able to withstand the flood of other releases of the weekend? Stay put for more coverage on FSR.
Other Wide Releases on June 22
DOA: Dead or Alive
For anyone who isn’t familiar with the videogame that inspired this film, Dead or Alive is a fighting game that pits half naked, large breasted women against each other to fight or play volleyball. What can we expect from the film? Half naked, large breasted women who have barely even had a speaking role in Hollywood before this film. Should be good eh?
Black Sheep
A bunch of insane sheep go on a rampage in rural New Zealand — how’s that for a premise? Looks to be another genre spoof, but still looks fun. I loved the trailer. The special effects were done by Weta Workshops, which you might remember from the Lord of The Rings Trilogy…fanboy.
