Thank God it wasn't just me - saw this at the weekend and was left thinking that a little boys corpse would reek after 6 months. And when they tracked the source of the putrid stench they'd have discovered Simon's body.

And how come he didn't shout, as Gigante pointed out.

And how come the door to where he was hidden was papered over? Did the ghostly Thomas do that? Do ghosts do wallpapering?

Really great film let down by some inconsistencies in plotting.

Another plot hole that left me really miffed (HUGE SPOILER!!!!) was, why didn't Simon scream for his mother when he was accidentally locked in the basement? Instead of banging on the walls, why not "Mom, I'm in the freakin' basement!, get me out of here!" really loudly. That might work...

No gaping plot holes? Whatcha mean? When they run the old lady down, the detective mentions her job at the orphanage and the death of her deformed son. Then much later, we find all the occupants of the orphanage had been murdered and cremated by the same woman. How did the detective and the town around the orphanage not notice it was suddenly empty? How did the old woman get Simon's file?

Tara -- It's really not that scary. It is more like a creepy fairy tale than anything else.
