How would a film, even a short, that is as bad as you say, ever get past the first level of screening in the entry process?

I walked out of "Lunch Break." I tried my damndest to make it through, but I could finally take no more and looked at my watch only to discover I was only 25 minutes into the 2 hour film.

The fact that anyone could give a Sundance film a D, just scares me. What does this say about the quality of films being shown? What does this say about the decision process? For a festival that is so sought after, and so tough to get into, it saddens me that a potentially better film than this was denied the opportunity to screen.
