Tom Cruise seems more like a robotic actor these days. I find his acting boring and play like.He never changes..he has a look at me I am Tom Cruise type of attitude and because of that I can't seem to finish watching his films anymore. I agree that actors like Sean Penn and Johnny Depp lose themselves in the roles which draw you into the movie. To me a great actor is one that can reinvent themselves as the character not just memorize lines from a script.

A positive movie about Germans who stood against the Nazi State, I will give it a look, even though I do not care for Cruise any longer. I have read too much about this event and want to see if they actually capture the spirit of the attempt well.

What I'm curious to know is whether this movie is true to the actual events and reasons for attempting to assassinate Hitler? That is, were they trying to remove Hitler because he was destroying Germany or because he was murdering millions of innocent people? And does this story delve into that motivation?

Agreed Dak, WWII was a great interest of mine ever since I was in High School and I know what happened to all the men who were involved. They and their families were butchered after this attempt as well as hundreds of others who were simply friends or aquantinces of theirs. Rommel was even forced to commit suicide over simply being included in one of the discussions.

I don't think it's Cruise's fault for not having a German accent. I've seen his movies and I know that if the directors wanted him to have an accent, he would have had one, he's not half bad at it. So I think it was more of the directors' fault for not requesting it than the actors for not learning it, though why the directors would do that I have no idea…

But that's the thing, history tells you different. You know their outcome and the fate of Hitler, but this film had me believe different. Most historical films I watch, where I know the outcome, I sort of tone out the tension as I already know what's coming. It becomes another period piece, but with this, it felt truly like a thriller through and through and kept me on the edge till the very last line. But you, it's all a matter of opinion, and I see the points you make. For me, I'm the opposite, if they aren't going to speak the language, don't disguise it with phony accents.

Yeah the diverse accents (or lack-there-of in Cruise's case) was the main factor for me in why I didn't really care for the movie. It just took away from the overall authenticity of the film and made most of the characters highly unbelievable as German Nazis. If you're not gonna have them speak in German w/English subtitles (which I'll admit would've gotten old), at least have them speak w/a German accent while speaking English. And OF COURSE you wanted them to succeed, how couldn't you when they were trying to take down arguably the most vile and sadistic man of our time?!?!

I just had to comment on the part about the ending being so shocking to the audience…REALLY?!?! How did you think this was gonna end??? Did you actually think they were gonna kill Hitler??? I mean what did you think was gonna happen, that they'd just slap Cruise on the hand and say "Don't try that again!" I'm sorry but the audience must not have been very smart…or they thought "big movie star" Tom Cruise was gonna save the world, thus changing history!!!! LOL

Accents aside, was that the only factor that was bothersome? Was there a problem with the story telling or cinematography? Or was the accent sort of a limiting hurdle and sort of put you out of the film? I thought the acting from all sides were pretty good and overall the story progressed in such a way, you really wanted them to succeed, even though your better judgment knows the outcome to the story. I find that rare in historical pieces.
