I saw this movie last night at an advanced screening and thought it was better than most films that came out this year, but not great. I agree the script was well written (I loved the dialogue), the directing was awesome, and the movie really did have some great moments, but I think it's getting way too much hype from all the critics. The performances were good, but after reading all these rave reviews on Clooney I thought he was finally going to challenge himself and I was a little disappointed when he didn't. He was good, don't get me wrong, but again not great. It was a good film and I recommend it, but don't go into this thinking you're about to be blown away.

I'm sorry, i honestly have respected this critic for the longest time, but i really have to disagree, i went to an advanced screening of the film a couple weeks ago at the Paris theater in New York and i felt that it was unbelievably predictable and a half-assed combination of his previous two films and he's trying to recapture that with a corporate comedy with a heart, in my opinion it is funny and sweet, at times, but in the end it falls on its face. Great cast, great music, but this has shaken my faith in Jason Reitman (who after the screening gave one of the most pompous speaches about how he turned down "Dude where's my car" and his father is one of the biggest producer/directors in hollywood, he doesnt deserve praise for not taking a shitty job and making those two films, which are both great, but not masterpieces, Juno did not deserve an oscar, there i said it.) so i've rambled enough but that's my thought

Wow, Robert Levin gets hyperbolic. I'm speechless. As well, I couldn't agree more on Up in the Air. It has the unique pace and energy that Reitman has instilled in all of his films, a magnificent performance from Clooney and a supporting cast that never lets us down. Soundtrack, solid. Engagement factor, solid. Overall, just a fine piece of filmmaking. And without a doubt, a stand-out in an otherwise mediocre year.
