I was eight at the time, and my father took me to see it. He remember the 50's version as a good, scary, B-horror film, and I'm sure didn't realize the trauma he was going to put me through. The last five minutes of that film had me terrified for months. I watch it today and I can still remember what it was like as an eight-year-old watching that ending. I think the film very much helped shape my world view: be afraid of organizations and groupthink and remain distrustful of the status quo, even if everyone is telling you how wonderful it is. They really didn't need to make another one of these. They just... didn't. The 1978 version of this film literally rocked my world and I think wholly shaped my view of horror films ever since.
