The aerial shots that are meant to be Nome, Alaska are in fact Squamish, BC. I believe it's the close proximity to Vancouver ( a major film hub ) that has Squamish portraying Alaska in a number of films.
I'm sure you were as much "that's not Nome" as I was " hey that's Squamish" when I fist saw it. You are correct in saying they look nothing alike. Both beautify small towns but not even close to a match.

Corporate viral marketing? What are you talking about?!? Brian when it comes to product placement this movie has just about nothing involved. Do you even know what a viral marketing campaign is? Well, first its when you try and market something to buy! Guess what you already paid for the ticket to get you into the theater so they did what they wanted to, nothing else to market! please think before you post thing's Brain.

Also, it's called using your verisimilitude. Or are you still too unintelligent to know what that means?

As an Alaskan, one of the things that really bothered me is that it is supposed to be set in Nome, AK, but looks nothing like it. I know that certain liberties have to be taken while making movies, but at least do your homework and put in a little effort to make it look like the place it is set in.
Our local Anchorage, AK papers take on the movie http://community.adn.com/node/143292

I also have to give kudos to the makers of "Into The Wild". They actually filmed here in Alaska.

I was insulted by the transparent attempt to get the audience to buy into this corporate attempt at a viral marketing campaign. There is no way that footage like that could be legally used in a movie, so any credibility or believability is instantly shot. "The Fourth Kind" tries so hard to convince the audience that this obviously faked evidence is, actually, real, they all it really does is insult the audience's intelligence. If they hadn't tried so hard, I might have been able to suspend disbelief, but that's impossible when the entire movie is geared at trying to make you believe that the impossible is not just possible, but actual reality.

I was very suspicious as it if the footage was real or not. It seemed like it played out all too well. and What are the chances of a story like this that nobody has every heard about before, that supposedly has conducted this major study, and FBI attention. reguardless, this was a good movie.
