There is also far too much violence (both slow-motion and speeded-up) and too many frenetic chases. Unendearing, then, but not unentertaining.

If there was a post-credits scene, I didn't see it. I had read vague hints to such a scene and was in my seat for every single credit (something I generally do anyway) all the way until the Warner Brothers logo came up. If there was a scene after that, that's cheating.

Several things on this one:

1.) Hell yes on the chemistry between Law and Downey. Well done totally.

2.) Thank you for not making Watson BUMBLING. How many other sidekicks give their boss the smackdown in today's movie landscape? Great stuff!

3.) Being able to detail Holmes "breaking down/introspective deduction of events" into something as straight-forward as taking out a guard/a bar brawl for cash - BRILLIANT. I loved that and knew that I was going to have a great ride.

4.) Remember Wild Wild West? Remember the flavor that was completely absent form it? It's poured liberally here and is delicious to taste.

The only few negatives -

1.) Downey seemed to speak into the chest of his shirt/jacket quite a bit. I know it was to "showcase Holmes tonal quality, but it got drowned out by the soundtrack several times.

2.) A great start to the female lead that led to her being an unconscious maiden. That's too bad.

3.) Maiden falls 30 stories and dies! Oh no wait, she only fell 10 feet onto some mystery tool plank, on her back and awakens just in time for a hug and semi-smootch. Eeek.

4.) (Not sure how to articulate this one) Give the audience a chance to "get it". You have Holmes sum up the puzzle at the end so that the audience couldn't have POSSIBLY gotten all of the elements together to come to the same conclusion.

A great offering and your review got it right for sure.

I really like it. I was a little bothered by how much they uped the romance between Holmes and Irene Adler, but I do understand that they did it for cinematic reasons. Still...
Also, why did Adler have an American Accent? Am... I forgetting something from the books? I don't think so... So it was a tad disconcerting, like they were trying to make her stand out just a little too much.

Overall though it was quite a lot of fun, Jude Law as Watson was adorable (pretty unexpected.) RDJ and him were great together.

I agree, for his time Sherlock Holmes was the action star of his day. He knew how to box, fence, ride and it was alluded to that he at one time was in the military, so I am not too concerned with the action aspect that the trailer features. What I hope they don't do is to make Moriarty too supernatural or give him some sort of "power" thus taking it into the realm of corny.

You've seen me run my mouth on here enough Rob, I will let the site know what I thought of the movie. lol

I'm curious to hear your thoughts after you've seen it Aleric. Some "purists" are complaining about Holmes as a fighter, but the original Doyle stories are pretty clear that he was more than capable of throwing down when he had to... it was the subsequent screen adaptations that moved him away from that and purely towards being a brain.

Wow, you not only name check The Talented Mr. Ripley, which I loved, but you name checked Without A Clue with I utterly adore. You sir are a scholar and a gentleman.

I'm very happy to end the year with something like this. After the dissapointment of Avatar (Which isn't bad, but it should be so much better.) I'll be glad to have a film I'll want to go see again and again.
