Hi Schizo, <br>If by "portrayal" you mean performance than I'd say Fuhrman (plays Esther) does a much better job than Culkin did. She's believably sweet and evil. The difference comes down to the motivation behind the actions. He was simply absent of a moral compass and possibly mentally deranged. She's a little bit the same but a hellava lot different...<br>Like I said, this isn't a bad movie overall. The first hour is actually quite good. The deciding factor really comes down to your reaction to the end twist. Some people are okay with how it's done, but I wasn't. I do think it's worth a rental though or maybe a matinee...

Rob, I live in another country so couldn't find a chance to see it yet. But trailer reminded me Ian McEwan's novel adaptation "The Good Son". Esther looks like the female version of Macaulay Culkin's Henry. Is her portrayal of an evil kid similar to Culkin's (in the case you watched the movie)? Again, Vera Farmiga was terrorized by her child in "Joshua". I think I've seen enough creepy kids in horror/thriller movies. So, I suppose the movie doesn't present nothing new, does it?

I thought the movie was good. The ending is something you never saw coming! Maybe it shouldn't be billed as a Horror movie more of a suspense film.

This movie looks terrible and so generic. No reason to see this, doesn't look fun or scary at all.

I thought it was a great movie for many reasons. 1.) The Build-up- it starts with small and slightly disturbed moments and gradually becomes fully insane and crazy, yes the scene towards the end is awkward, but when everything is revealed, it makes sense and it's not done poorly. 2.) The acting- there is not a single bad performance in this movie, you care about what happens to these characters. 3.) Suspense- Don't even get me started, I was on the edge of my seat for the whole movie, mainly because you actually care what happens to the characters and you don't want harm brought to them. Anyway, I could go on, but this movie was deserving of a lot more than a C-, I think it's one of the best horror/suspence/thriller movies to come around in quite some time.

Short answer is "no."<br><br>Slightly longer answer is "not really." There was one scene where I didn't quite know where it would go in regards to the survival of a certain character, but I don't recall any sense of dread or uneasiness. And there were definitely no real scares. Esther is boring in the sense that her evil is predictable, but the actress does a good job with the role and there's some mild satisfaction to be had with the inevitable ending.

A movie classified under the horror genre should be, well, horrific. Scary, if you want to put it in simpler terms. The trailer doesn't leave behind an ounce of unease or dread, even the slightest sign of a good horror film. Esther, quite frankly, looks blank and boring. Besides humor, does this movie evoke any emotion?
