I'm just wondering why they didn't have the game's original story writers develop the
screenplay. Anyone who's played the videogame will remember the superb comicbook
aesthetic, the tongue-in-cheek humour and the cracking plotline. Were it not for the
superb story, Max Payne would simply have been a tedious exercise in dispatching
multitudes of baddies in slo-mo.

The comment section begs the question I once heard uttered from a brilliant man once: Who's more foolish: the fool or the fool who follows him? Not that Neil or That Guy are fools, don't take as in a literal interpretation. I just have never understood why someone reads a review and then proceeds to blast the critic for having an opinion. Is their assessment of the film any less valued than yours?

Here's my advice to anyone who wants to see Max Payne. Make up your own mind. Yes, there are times critics' reviews have steered me away from a film, but that almost always happens when dealing with a film that I was skeptical of to begin with. But if you want to see it, by all means, don't let a review one of us Rejects gives stop you. Just don't be pissed if it sucks. And yeah, this film might.

One more thing, if a cameo by Chris O'Donnell, the Boy Blunder, is how you defend Max Payne in your rebuttal to Neil Miller's review, well, then you're fighting an uphill battle my friend. In no way am I trying to blast you, That Guy. There are enough sets of internet muscles around the web as it is. I just think when laying out blanket statements about critics you should realize that you're in a way defeating your argument by saying their opinions mean little to nothing when yours should have inherent value. Now, if you don't mind, I am going to go back to my corner of the basement. Mom's cooking Spaghetti-0s tonight. My fave. :)

Interesting review but it in no way is going to keep me from seeing the movie. If you have played the games you know its suppose to be somewhat slow moving. The game was very Noir (sp?) with a very slow deliberate pace.

It sounds like the movie follows the game pretty close which isnt a bad thing. Its just too bad they didnt give the lead to James Mcaffery who played Max Payne in the game. He is a screen actor and also has the look for the part...plus he's the voice.

The way Neil described it makes it sound a lot like the last Punisher movie to me, which was my biggest complaint about that film. What I thought was a long build up with sort of interspersed with action that was meh, and then suddenly a bunch of violence at the end.

Maybe, just maybe, its a set up for a sequel and we get full on action in the second.

Maybe I'm just being too optimistic.

Hmm, looks like I am going to see this on Sunday instead of tonight just in case it isn't worth the price of a full admission.

The Death Knell for me is any movie that portryas itself as an action flick then takes 90% of the movie to get to "said" action. Perhaps I should stock up on toddlers and punching gloves beofre I hit the theater.

See, I'm different, because I am so high on myself that I only give two reviews - worst movie ever and greatest of all time. My word is law. I bury films or elect them to the Oscar nomination.

meh, this joke is tired.

Actually, That Guy has a point. I, for one, am an egomaniac. I'm so high on myself that giving a decent review would kill me. Because I'm awesome.

And speaking of basements, I have to admit that I don't live in one, but it would be really cool to. I grew up in South Texas where there aren't any basements, and after being in DC for a few years and getting used to them - wow! How rad. Cool, secure, like the War Room in Dr. Strangelove. How incredible it would be to have the privilege of living in one. If it was under my parent's house - even better.

Even better.

Also - hallucinogen that makes me see winged-creatures? Count me in.

Ya i guess i did sound over opinionated huh? Well I personally thought the flick wasn't bad and yes thats my opinion and the fact that Neil gave it a D kind of annoyed me but that was his opinion and everyone is entitled to there opinions. What i was trying to say was that message boards don't help movies before they are released and critics
usually have really high expectations for movies these days. I didn't mean to piss anyone off so I apologize if I came off as a dick. Oh and Sam, thanks for the laugh.

Ya i guess i did sound over opinionated huh? Well I personally thought the flick wasn’t bad and yes thats my opinion and the fact that Neil gave it a D kind of annoyed me but that was his opinion and everyone is entitled to there opinions. What i was trying to say was that message boards don’t help movies before they are released and critics
usually have really high expectations for movies these days. I didn’t mean to piss anyone off so I apologize if I came off as a dick. Oh and Sam, thanks for the laugh.

That Guy: Nine times out of ten I've learned that people who get upset over others differing opinions are insecure douchebags. The thought of someone disagreeing with you is such a blow to your ego that you go as far to claim that any person who dislikes a movie that you like is a fat guy living in his mothers basement, nine times out of ten. Whered you find that statistic, anyway? So you stalk fat guys that live in their mothers basements, huh? SWEET. Keep on living the dream, That Guy.
