Hey- my two cents worth: The Guardian does try to give a behind the scenes take to the Coast Guards BUT it does detract from itself by casting pretty boy Kutcher as one of the main characters. The acting is nothing to wax lyrical about and I agree that it is an attempt at creating a simulacrum. Having said that, I did enjoy the movie- on the rented DVD; one of the many that I will rent again in say.. 12 months’ time…? Cheers! :)

i absolutely loved this movie. its definately my new favorite. oh man it was soooooo good. it was so meaningful and gave me a lot of respect for the coast guard. im definately buying this and watching it 8794561231567845 times.

This film looks like The Perfect Storm meets Jarhead, but may end up with too much Punk’d attitude. Initial reviews have been positive though (our own Matt Alexander dished out a C+), and there is a strong marketing campaign behind it thanks to being a child of The Walt Disney Company. Taking that all into consideration, the film could stand very well on its ownâ€¦ But there is one problem: it has to compete with Jackass: Number Two. Jackass was a big surprise to some last week as audiences just ate it up. Jet Li’s Fearless also had a great first weekend. In fact, only Gridiron Gang and Everyone’s Hero survived in the Top 5, showing that audience are not sticking with films after they have been out for a few weeks. Nicely even-handed review. One note: Kutcher\’s love interest in the movie is not Shelby Fenner\’s character, but Melissa Sagemiller\’s.
