The storyline didnt change over all from the book (they fall in love, he goes to war, they write letters) but key important plot points were missed, also missing was the heartbreak John suffered after her final letter. They dont meet in a silly cafe but that Tim survives and they share one last moon as he watches her hidden from a cliff loving her from a disctance. The romance was taken when they replaced it with hollywood blabber and fluff. Not even close to the same heart strings pulled as the Notebook.

In the film, John says he compares himself to the fine pressing of a coin. It's a sad state of affairs when you have to compare yourself to a collectible coin to express your individuality.

Movie had a few minor changes but nothing that really changed the story line. Except the way it ended. The ending could go either way and not hurt this movie. Loved it. Read the book first and saw the movie still loved it.

I don't plan on seeing the movie, but know the story. I gotta say, if it didn't try for the heavy laden melodrama worthy of lifetime, it sounds interesting. I thought the previews were wildly predictable, but the ending is very satisfying (assuming the stick to the book). Thank Wikipedia for the summary.
