You know why is so beautiful? Cause it's realisitc. We all had Summer's, right? And even IF some day we met Authnum, we will never forget Summer.

I was lucky enough to go see a preview screening a month ago, and I have to say that it's the most refreshing “romantic comedy” I've ever seen. But it's not really a rom-com. It's the story of a relationship, as told through the myopic lens of memory and emotions. It's honest, at times it's brutally awkward (his on-screen mis-steps with Summer will make anyone flash back to their own weaker moments), and it made me gasp exactly once. Good stuff.

** SPOILER** summer and tom break up and dont see eachother for a long time and when they do see eachother again summer is married to another guy(summers a bitch!)
but tom gets over her and he meets another girl at a job interview at the end of the movie
and her name is autumn

The film that 500 Days of Summer is comparable to is Woody Allen’s Annie Hall, another film showing the development and fall of an interesting relationship, from the point of view of a male protagonist. It too uses surrealistic touches. However, in Annie Hall those moments are used to portray Alvy Singer’s desires. He’s either romancing the queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, discovering what his former classmates have become, or pulling out Marshall McLuhan from behind a poster to prove a point to a total stranger. These moments compliment Alvy’s self-centered persona. The use of surrealism in 500 Days of Summer is to portray heightened visuals of Tom’s inner emotions. When he is feeling elated and confident, it appears as if everyone on the street is smiling at him right before they transform into Broadway showmen and break out into a choreographed dance number. When Tom is feeling anxiety over an upcoming interaction with Summer, a split screen parallels Tom’s expectations for his evening with the actual encounter. This technique simultaneously reflects his hopes and dreams while showing the façade he must present amidst tragic disappointment.

We've all had our hearts broken, some more than most. It's happened to me: once because I was too unconventional, once because I wasn't unconventional enough.
I'm sure I'll see this because I can relate, even though I usuallt hate romantic comedies.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm glad to know that it is good. I was worried that the unconventional ending of a romantic movie couldn't be done. After all, “The Break up” and “Prime” didn't leave me all that satisfied. But it is hopeful to hear that this movie pulls it off. Thanks for the review.

I saw this movie in a screening a year ago and have loved it ever since. I'm so glad it's finally out so I can see it again, and already can't wait till it's out on DVD so I can own it.
