Because everyone is rich and in love, you can see the happy ending coming a mile away, but with a film like this, it's the journey that's important and not the destination.

[...] The Holiday (review by Neil Miller) (2006, 136 minutes, PG-13, romantic comedy, trailer) This must take place in some alternate universe because only there can Jack Black be one of the leads in a romantic comedy. Or maybe not, the guy does have charisma. He is part of a cast that also includes Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, and Jude Law. Winslet and Diaz play women who have had relationship issues and are looking to get away from their lives for the holidays, they find a program that has people switch homes. The two go forth with the house swap and perhaps find love in the unlikeliest of places. Looks like it could be halfway decent. It was directed by Nancy Meyers (What Women Want). [...]

[...] Speaking of short attention spans, this week’s slue of new releases includes the kid filled critical bomb Unaccompanied Minors, the Jude Law filled seasonal chick flick The Holiday (my review), the afore mentioned Gibson gore-fest Apocalypto (review by Matt Alexander) and the soon-to-be-controversial Blood Diamond (my review) starring Leonardo DiCaprio. All of these films have their merits, save for Unaccompanied Minors, which rests on the acting skills of Fez from That 70’s Show. Apocalypto and Blood Diamond are both Oscar contenders, so they should be good draws. The Holiday is going to be this year’s Love Actually and quite possibly be steal the weekend. So while I am sure that a film like Apocalypto will trump the hot releases from a few weeks back, I also recognize that it will have to split the pie with some other very deserving films. I look for DiCaprio to be a big draw and Apocalypto to be in tow. [...]

You'd think someone would tell poor Kate Winslet about the unfortunate shadow making her look like Tonto: Phew! Someone's told her... Only now she looks like a one-horned devil...: http://lorettin.info/?p=549
