Dear allan greig,

I am not kidding you, and I must say that your review of my review was rather weak. I thought I had made clear that it wasn't the points of the movie that I disliked, but rather how they were delivered. And if you think this movie was subtle you need to expand your horizons and see some real cinema.

And by the way, Schindler's List is my favorite movie.

Dear Patrick,

Being accurate and being original are not conditions that are in opposition to one another. And why are you apologizing? Did you make the film. I do not wish the Heavens to forbid accuracy, and no, the movie was too filled with things we have seen before to be called original.

And whence comes this certainty of what I would do in another situation? Do you really know this, or are you pulling something from your rectum?

My apologies that the movie pursued an avenue of being accurate as opposed to striving for whatever originality you are looking for. Heaven forbid that a director do something accurately and do it well, and by the way, the movie was quite original. On the other hand, I am sure that you would have criticized him if he was original and not accurate as well. Allan was spot on with his assessment of your review, as disappointing says it best.

Are you kidding me? What a weak review. Liberal patronizing? You miss the most profound points of this movie. For example… that some Africans like Solomon are good people striving for a good simple life despite the crisis of their country...some like Archer struggle within their identity as white Africans wanting more and more. This film is filled and rich with dynamics and nuances that happen only in Africa. Amazing Hollywood could catch and subtly share this. I guess to subtle for some. Your review is remarkably shallow and disappointing. You sound like high school kid annoyed that Schindler's List was in black and white.

[...] Now, here are a few movies that I would recommend you try, if you haven’t already. First is Mel Gibson’s Mayan language film, Apocalypto, which is one of the best pure action movies of the year. Leonardo Dicaprio stars in his second excellent film of the season with Blood Diamond, which is rather thrilling ride despite a few plot contrivances. The previously mentioned Rocky Balboa was a pleasant surprise, bringing big speeches and a strong performance from the aging Sly Stallone. For the families out there I would suggest seeing either Charlotte’s Web or Night at the Museum. The former film is a fine, sweet natured tale of the little pig who could, and the latter is a fun night among living museum displays. [...]
