Shut the phuck up already, so, you HATE the film or is that a wild geuss . Let's just say it made me think more than your average craptastic blockbuster, which, by the way AlWAYS have plot holes or at least physical inpossibilities. It was okay, and the massage parlor was pritty funny.

My take on this movie is that either the editor's didn't know the first thing about editing or the writer's were the laziest people in the world. Come on, a smart movie doesn't have that many holes. If you really think this is a smart movie I'll have a pint of what you’re drinking.

Your final paragraph notes that some people do not display depth of emotion. They are guarded, or shallow. They perlex us & this movie about them is perplexing.

Gigantic suggests that emotionally guarded/frozen people may suffer from temporary or lifelong mental duress. The writers show us that Brian views the rural attacker (who is real) and city attacker (who is imagined) as the same person. Someone is out to get him! That's consistent with mental illness/paranoia. It's a sad & alarming, but these people really do exist. Some even graduate from college, hold jobs, and raise children.

In the interest of brevity , I will not explain Happy's character, but she, too, is suffering emotionally.

Just watched this nonsense, and I have to agree with your assessment. Not only was the movie bad, but I feel worse for the waste of talent. I can only assume that either a LOT of pertinent scenes were cut, or everyone involved just wanted a paycheck. The ending almost infuriates me because, after waiting in vain for some closure to the story that was almost told, I'm supposed to be okay with a presumably insane man caring for a child? Matt Aselton might be on my black list forever. It takes a lot for a movie to actually piss me off.

I caught this movie this past week while bored and flipping through the movie channels. I agree with every single thing you've written. It's funny how people try so hard to like all things “indie” that they actually convince themselves that pieces of crap like this movie are actually good.

You pretty much hit it all on the head. You forgot to mention that “war generation” Asner, who expects apartments to have doormen who shine your shoes and office workers to have secretaries to get their dry cleaning, has a family tradition of brewing his sons magic mushroom tea and then hiking in the woods — not exactly “gray flannel” territory.

(About the family reacting to the shooter, I suppose it's possible that the first bullet was an actual stray bullet, which put the idea in Brian's head that he might be shot, which he then used in his fantasy later that night.)

Excellent review friend,

I do give props to the actress who made the character likable even though she was very shallow and pretentious. Overall, the story seemed pasted together by kindergarten off-brand elmer's glue, the stuff that kind of sticks but not really.

Dear Cole Abaius everything you said about this movie is true I was waiting for the moment in the film where it all just comes together and the light bulb of what the point was to come one but it never did and just was left confused about the whole thing. I must say though the best part of the whole review would have to be the P.S. made my day and totally agree with with it!

The plot holes are put there to MAKE YOU THINK. its a story created by you. ever think of this? Zooey Deschanel NEVER plays a movie that you fully comprehend, she is always in odd movies so do not criticize a movie because you don't have the imagination to enjoy it.

Saw this way back at TIFF and thought it was terrible. Probably didn't help that I saw it right after Synecdoche, New York. But it really is a terrible excuse for a movie. The only positive thing I could say about it was that John Goodman gave an excellent performance.
