Thanks for dropping the attitude in favor of actual dialogue. I think the definition of 'professional' is a slippery one, but I can see and accept your point now. And while I don't necessarily agree that my reference to your quote was insulting or unprofessional, it was never my intention to be either so I apologize.

And I long for the day I get quoted on a DVD case with "Disturbingly sexy!" It would make my momma so proud.

"Intense! Amazing! Disturbingly sexy!" — Rob Hunter, Film School Rejects. See how easy it is for someone to grab sections of of context and make an awesome DVD blurb out of it? And while I'll admit that I was probably too snippy in my first message, the simple truth is that it's considered bad form to negatively reference other reviews in your own review. "that comment seems crafted mostly for use as a DVD cover blurb" is a goddam slap in the face, and if you don't know that, well maybe now you do.

From another angle: There's a certain horror website that gets "blurbed" CONSTANTLY. 4 out of 5 times I think those quotes are legitimate, professional, and enthusiastic. But once in a while I read one that REEKS of "We only wrote this so we might get quoted on it." Have I ever published an article calling these guys out, impugning their professionalism, and stating that they wrote something JUST for a DVD cover? Again, slap in the face.

I know I like to harp on this a lot, but I am a professional writer. The reason I occasionally get quoted on stuff like Martyrs is simply because A) I saw it early at a film festival, B) I really liked it, and C) I'm lucky enough to write for a high-profile website.

I also work very closely with Erik Childress on his regular Quote Whore stuff, so I know the big differences between a legit quote and some PR ass-kiss. I'd simply rather not have a website I respect imply the latter about me.

And I suspect you know this already, but yes: "professionalism" counts for a whole lot.

45 words out of more than 1215 pointed out that your quote sounded like a DVD Cover blurb and he used your review to further his own. Not only that, but he said your quote (which does, you have to admit, seem tailor made for a DVD case) had some truth in it.

So chill out and check your ego if you think the 1215 other words not about you were somehow also about you.

No disdain intended. I just fail to see the connection between being a professional and referencing someone else's comments within a review. I didn't knock you or your review of the film, I just pointed out that a line like that can be blurb bait… then I proceeded to agree with your sentiment.
