Being a star in Korea differs from being a star in the U.S. Notably there is a language barrier. Rain may be hailed as a great actor in another country but that does not automatically make him a great one here in the US. Also, the criticism lies in the selection of Rain for this role not Rain himself regardless of people think they made this movie for him or not, it wasn't a good match. I would say they should've kept the language in Japanese (since Ninja are from Japan and not Korea) but Rain isn't Japanese either so that wouldn't have worked either.

Thank you for telling it how it is. No matter how much I want to support asian actors (being asian myself), RAIN is the poor choice for this role. We have tons of real martial artists that actually are decent actors to choose from and so I am confused why he was picked. I know the brothers like him though but they need to pick the right person for the right role. Also, this movie in general is a blatant rip off of the Ninja Gaiden video game series.

I enjoyed the movie ninja assassin, as did others in the audience. we were all on the edge of our seats because the action was so non-stop. rain was magnificent as a martial artist. his facial expressions were so emotional, intense, and dramatic. pretty good for someone who had to learn english for the role and is considered a good actor in his homeland. for you to say this movie showed rain couldn’t act and do martial arts — what were you watching? karate kid 2? it seems like you want to rain on rain’s parade and dry him out in the sun.

a con?Read the internet stories to find out how he got the role. directors/producers said the film couldn't have been made without rain. in fact, the movie was made specifically for him. i know because i talked to producer/director for story. rain won best actor award in korea and that country has amazing actors. stop being so ignorant…considering how much english rain learned in a year, i'd say he made dramatic improvements. i could understand him perfectly and was amazed by how well he did, considering the transition from korean to english is tortuous. you try it buddy and let's see how your korean sounds. rain a con? he's considered the hardest worker in Asia, a workaholic perfectionist, driven, multi talented…..that's why he's the closest we come to a global star. a justin timberlake of Asia? Plzzz….he's more MJ of Asia, though everyone knows there is only one MJ. Michael Jackson died on Rain's birthday, June 25.

The guy was making a point about the non-point of the "ninja shot in higher light" nonsense. That comment was not witty film banter, but banal humor. While it's hardly a major offense, mychaleg was right for calling it out.

I would agree with you about the review however; dead on.
The notion of an action film with key scenes being poorly lit is pretty lame. As mentioned in the article, you'd think that someone would have noted this before releasing the product. Bad writing we can handle in an action flick, but lighting issues? In a film which relies on visual feats, wire work, acrobatics and CGI? Fail.

That kind of thing is hard to accept by any means, made all the more painful when the movie was created by visionary talents who should have found such a thing unacceptable.

This review is dead on. He explainesthe movie perfectely. As for that douch that commented on grammer and sarcasm..quiet down. No one cares about how high you can hold your nose in the air as an intellectual. Go teach an english class. Here we talk movies.

Basically looks like 'Wanted' but with swords. I'd bet a dollar that the movie is going to be complete garbage. Though just like Wanted, it will probable be a decent popcorn flick with lots of fun CGI. I don't think I'll pay to see it, seeing how there are better films that deserve my money more. Maybe when it comes out on netflix, I'll watch it with the other free trash.

Great review. I saw it at Vancouver film festival, and I felt exactly same things… man this guy rain is a con.. how da hell could he get this role??? he can't act and speak in english for gods sake
