Obviously he's reviewing all the film aspects (script, plot, act, fighting coreography, drama etc) and not on the actor's fighting skill. Audiences doesn't really care whether in real life, Keanu is a kungfu master, or Stallone is a boxer and a Vietnam War veteran or Arnold is a cyborg from the future :) as long as they can enjoy the film.
I love Tony Jaa, admire Panna Rittikrai's work and now keep my eye on Jeeja - she can act & kick ass, in fact I will go to any movie with good fighting scenes. However, it's rare to find such a balance portion between story/drama and action in these kind of films and this one nails it nicely.

What is this guys talking about ? I respect sirat and the main actor of this movies and I accept that this plot might be better than ong bak cause they used director and teams which is far more experience than thai so matial arts look good and seem to be conservative and fast but when u look at behind the scene of this movies is not at all . how can u call that is movement. they had been using a lot of sling, stopping all the time and his weapons are really no power. Never be the same as Tony jaa by looking at what he can do. It seems like the matrix some actors dont need to know anything about matial arts. how dare u said that u dont need any camera. Believe me if they hadnt used a lot of professtional angle , any fighting scene in this movies wouldnt be good as u see in the cinema . Silat is such a beautiful martial art and this guys did it well but dont try to compare with tony jaa . Can he jump as long as tony jaa do? how long he can remain in the air? how fast he can be ?

I am an Indonesian. Thank you for your high appreciation of Merantau. I would like to translate your review into Indonesian. Would you give me a permission for that? There are many Indonesians that would really be happy to read your review.

Yay! An Indonesian movie in an international movie festival.
As an Indonesian myself, I'm so proud that Merantau can be reviewed at FSR & graded A!
Brilliant!
I've watched the movie around August 2009 & actually enjoyed it very much. The fighting scenes was awesome!
I'm still waiting for the DVD to be released here.

This is, hands down, my personal favorite film of the fest. An incredibly solid story, a great central performance from Iko Uwais -- who is as badass at Tony Jaa, but with dramatic range -- and a sweet fight at the end that is very real, very brutal and immensely entertaining. A fan-fucking-tastic film.
