Yes, the same man who goes to horror festivals, cheers the blood in Texas Chainsaw Massacre and once kicked a puppy both watched and enjoyed Stick It! I make no apologies.
The film follows the predictable path of troubled world-glass gymnast Haley Graham running into trouble with the law, being punished by being sent to gymnastics school (what happened to jail and juvie?), resists, changes heart, leads the team.
We first meet Haley throwing some sick tricks on a BMX bike and she breaks a window. Off to gymnastics school! There she clashes heads with other gymnasts over her troubled gymnastics past and with the coach who pushes her to reclaim her skills. Or is he after money from daddy?
The film moves through training to the Classic tournament where a purse is offered (a money purse, not a Gucci) and then to Worlds Qualifiers. It’s here where Haley makes her stand with her new found friends against the ancient Gymnastics ruling council that sticks it to the girls on scoring because of their coach. She also confronts an ex-team mate and current ‘enemy’ and tries to reforge the relationship destroyed when Haley lost team USA the world title years previous.
The DVD offers a couple of cool extras including music videos that are alright and some featurettes, including some awesome ones that show how some of the really stylish and crazy gymnastic montages were put together as well as a featurette that shows you the actresses alongside their nationally ranked gymnast doubles. Righteous.

The Upside: This is a guilty pleasure type of movie. It’s not good, but you like watching it. Like Bring it On! Oh yeah, and chicks in tards. “That’s leotards without the leo.”
The Downside: When people find out you watched this, they will laugh.
On the Side: From the writer/director of Bring It On!, plus Missy Peregrym’s stunt double looks almost like her twin. Hotness.
Final Grade: A-
