The book version had the best character development in a villain, it would have been gold to translate him to the movie, but since he was Middle Eastern, they 'couldn't.' The murder of the Cardinals wasn't repetitive. Each Cardinal had unique scenes, and Langdon didn't just "dick around" before he had to save them.
