The Dark Knight Returns in the Mind of Fans

So far the battle lines have been drawn and the draw-bridge is up on the castle that holds all the answers for fans of The Dark Knight — no one is talking about another film. No one, including the keymaster, director Christopher Nolan has said word one about what they plan to do in the next installment, assuming of course, that a next installment comes to pass. What we do know is that many of the principal players, including Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and co-writer David S. Goyer have expressed interest, saying collectively ‘If Chris wants to do another one, we are in.’

Apparently, that is not good enough for some fans, who have been hitting the web with a vengeance, speculating on potential villains, driving casting rumors into the headlines and analyzing every press appearance by anyone who could possibly be involved in a third film. At this point though, it is all fan-driven and “inside source” filibuster. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. And in the case of the poster below, which was sent to me by our always reliable source PatientZero, it is also very creative. Have a look for yourself below.

The Dark Knight Returns Fan Poster

This poster, along with many fans, makes the assumption that the villain in the next film would be The Riddler, something which would seem reasonable enough, as everyone from Gary Oldman to David Goyer have said that The Riddler would be a good choice, but nothing is certain. In fact, when we had a chance to sit down with writers David S. Goyer and Jonah Nolan back in July at The Dark Knight press junket, they were quick to point out that there are hundreds of villains in the Batman mythos, many of which could fit right into Chris Nolan’s vision of Gotham City. So at this point, while we are still confident that The Dark Knight will return, we don’t really see it starting with this poster.

  • THAT...IS....AWESOME!!!!
  • L T.
I wish that was real. Its really cool.

I think the riddler should be in the next one. I'd imagine a plotline where the riddler figures out what really happened with harvey dent and blackmails batman and gordon using a series of... well, riddles.
  • mack41
if you zoom in you can see that that Harvey dent article is written by vicki vale. Wish it
was real it looks awesome except 2011 is a long time!
  • Sarah
If this was true, it just even looks gorgeous. I can just imagine how the whole thing would
look, even though it taking place a year later story-time and coming out 3 years later seems
    strange.

Preferably, for everyone who isn't a viral marketer, the next Batman will have a better,
relevant, screenplay, a better director and better actors, especially as Batman. The major
complaint, obviously, was the terrible, yet overhyped, movie, the atrocious directing, and
the terrible, badly-cast, gay actors. If this were imdb there would be more viral marketers
here. They're like the cheap hustler telemarketers and telephone technical support of
internet media. The next Batman movie needs to be just plain better. Meaning NO
    BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    it's nice, yes.

but honestly, the way TDK was--a masterpiece--how will they ever be able to top that?? & seriously, i don't think i could watch another batman movie without heath ledger in it.
they should just leave it at what's already been set in stone.

that poster the kid made on shh is just awesome...
  • TC
Hey spelled State wrong. Spate. FYI.
  • Amol
    @TC:
Though I never tried to correct spelling/grammar mistakes of anyone on any posting site because I don't like to do so, here, I had to respond to this because TC here, has found a mistake where there exists none: A 'Spate' of letters means a 'Flood' of letters.

And that is a Great poster - creatively designed indeed!

And honestly, if this movie, as some guy above, says is BS and finds every field(direction, script,...) about as Terrible, I don't see these type of guys appreciating anything in life as well and I simply label these guys 'Pessimistic' or just some one only getting out of the wrong side of the bed shortly before posting their comments.

I would like to see The Black Mask in the Nolan's World because it makes sense and Black Mask deserves a place in a Batman movie. Also if justice is done to Bane it would be much appreciated because he was so wronged horrifically in that dust-bin movie Batman & Robin. But we can trust Nolan to handle any character, Riddler/Penguin or not.
