New ‘G.I. Joe’ Posters Continue To Push Mediocrity

Knowing is Half the Battle

The more I see and hear about the upcoming live-action G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra movie the more I think it’s actually an unofficial sequel to the 1982 classic Megaforce. An elite squad of fighting men utilizing the latest in high-tech weapons and vehicles to protect the world against evil organizations bent on world domination? Check. Unimpressive, unrealistic, and often entertaining costumes? Check. A director of questionable skill known solely for light, brainless fare? Check.

The idea for a live-action G.I. Joe movie has potential. Some of the characters have real personality, and the possibility for a solid, interesting, and fun action movie definitely existed… before Paramount and director Stephen Sommers got their hands on it anyway. Now the characters all blend together, and at least visually they’re severely lacking in personality. A teaser is set to air during the upcoming Super Bowl which should either offer some hope for the film or put the final nail in Duke’s coffin.

New posters have been released, but they’re basically just variations on ones we’ve already seen. All dressed in X-Men black, all holding weapons, women pushing their asses out in true soldier-like fashion…

But I digress. Check out the new posters below.

What do you think of the new posters? Don’t you wish they’d hurry up and release a poster of Cobra Commander already?

  • as long as they keep showing Scarlett and The Baroness, im good.
  • Brian Rodden
Snake Eyes looks pretty cool, but the movie is probably going to suck.
  • Baroness, Snake Eyes, and The Baroness is cool but the poster needs more things to it. Have any got the original poster maker of Star Wars Trilogies. Even Iron Man Theater Poster is much better than these. Why can they have Destro holding the mask like a thespian looking at it thinking he will be that Silver dome'd head freak? Now that would be a cool poster. Or maybe Baroness is on the ground laying on her stomach holding the Destro mask and licking it. Now that's hot!
  • man, i love MegaForce with so much love.
  • Yaaaawn. Though I like the Snake Eyes poster the style seems to fit his character, but the rest are a bore.
  • Those costumes look like they took the old Starship troopers uniforms and dipped them in black ink. Sexily dipped them in black ink.
  • At least it's not showing off the huge bulky robot armor from the other production stills. The one dude looked like he had a boombox on his chest. And I'm not going to throw Paramount under the bus yet. They did awesome with Transformers. I will however begin blaming Sommers now, because he's never made a good movie. Scarlett, Snake Eyes, and the Baroness all look good. Scarlett is a good example of how you can update her look away from leather jackets or some sort of leotard with stars on it and keep the essence the same. All the other troops however lost all their personality and look like clones.

You can't really screw up Snake Eyes...he's an easy character to pull off. They didn't all dress the same in the show, so why do they dress the same in the movie? Cobra Commander can be the only saving grace, but the movie will still be just OK, if that. One or two good action scenes, and some throw back stuff will make it watchable, but its not going to be good, and that sucks because there should be a good live action GI Joe film.
  • Yo-Ho
Wishful thinking but maybe, just maybe, this is an origin film of the Joes and they'll eventually get their more personalized uniforms later in the film. But so far *yawn.* I'll wait for the reviews and maybe netflix it for the women pushing their asses out. That kind of thing can save almost any movie. Of course, having Wayan as Ripcord knocks it down by at least -100.
  • Bland, bland, bland.......Who is their art director, he needs to be shot. Hell I can do a better job than pasting a photo with a typeface on the right hand side and some red snow falling.
