i think 300 is a darkest point in the making history of historical movies for hollywood. i wasted my time ….. so sorry… . this movie is a huge lie about persian empire. persian is first & biggest civilization empire in the world. first time , kirius (majestic of hakhamenesh) make a international message peace for the people of the world. his sun (khashayarsha) continiue the way of father….
if you want , you can see the perspolis town (historical place)of khashayarsha in IRAN (city:shiraz). but in this movie khashayarsha is a dangerous badman.
this is a big lie and history cant accept it.

Some of those facts are actually interpretations, but let's not quibble...

While the Battle of Thermopylae was hardly a fight for freedom, the one in this tale was depicted as such. I myself prefer a bit of historical accuracy in my movies, but when such fantastic creatures and mystical characters populate the story, I think there is less of a problem in straying from fact given that we have already strayed from reality.

Is this movie meant to help ready the populace to mobilize against Iran? I don't have the answer to that question. I can say in my case it failed miserably if such was its intent. And while the idea of fighting for freedom is hardly new, the slogan "Freedom isn't free" is particular to our time and place, so it is not hard to see why the movie might have been objectionable to some who, like myself, adamantly oppose US military action in the Middle East.

But curiously enough, that argument has not been advanced so far as I know. What we have been hearing is the decidedly less convincing gripe that Persians should not have been so depicted. They would be on moderately stronger ground if they based their arguments in more anti-war, anti-voernment propaganda rhetoric. Instead, all I have seen is sour grapes from people whose ancestors played the bad guys in this particular movie.

Hells bells, people! However appalling Spartan culture was (and I believe it was thoroughly so), it was the Persians who invaded at that point in time. They had a right to defend themselves, and that being the case, two and a half millenia later it is hardly a libel on Xerxes and his cohorts that they are so monstruously presented in a fantasy movie.

I agree, people are making too big a deal about this film's supposed political statements. No one likes it when their particular group or nationality are portrayed as the bad guys.

The truth is the most frequent villain in American movies is the American government. You don't hear Americans crying about that.
