The 20 Most Anticipated Films of 2008
Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on January 1, 2008

I am absolutely sick of writing “Top Ten” lists — so I have decided to make my big 2008 preview list with 20 films, just to add a little spice to your life. A while back my good friend Pete at /Film wrote an article about 55 Must-See Films in 2008, but that is just too many to sift through — you want it simple, right? Yahoo Movies also made their list of the Ten Most Anticipated Movies of 2008 — and it was absolutely lame. And lest I forget my good friend Alex at First Showing as he explains Why 2008 Will Be An Awesome Year for Movies — a comprehensive list similar to Pete’s. So as we ring in 2008, we’ve decided to give you a more precise, more definitive list of films to look out for in ‘08. With that said, I humbly present to you The 20 Most Anticipated Films of 2008.
20. Religulous (imdb)
Release Date: April 2, 2008
Talent: Bill Maher, Larry Charles (Director)
Synopsis: Bill Maher’s take on the current state of world religion.
The Buzz: Bill Maher has always had an interesting take on religion. In fact, he’s always had an interesting take on just about everything. That would be the key to the success of his late-night show Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO. In Religulous, Maher teams with Borat director Larry Charles to give his point of view on the state of religion in the world. Look out Michael Moore, you aren’t the only one who can be controversial.
19. The Incredible Hulk (imdb)
Release Date: June 13, 2008
Talent: Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, Louis Leterrier (Director)
Synopsis: Depicting the events after the Gamma Bomb. ‘The Incredible Hulk’ tells the story of Dr Bruce Banner, who seeks a cure to his unique condition, which causes him to turn into a giant green monster under emotional stress. Whilst on the run from military which seeks his capture, Banner comes close to a cure. But all is lost when a new creature emerges; The Abomination.
The Buzz: Not much has been released about this new Hulk, save for a few promotional stills and some concept art, but we are holding out hope. Marvel Studios has their game-face on, and we couldn’t be more excited.
18. Repo! The Genetic Opera (imdb)
Release Date: 2008
Talent: Paul Sorvino, Paris Hilton, Anthony Head, Darren Lynn Bousman (Director)
Synopsis: A worldwide epidemic encourages a biotech company to launch an organ-financing program similar in nature to a standard car loan. The repossession clause is a killer, however.
The Buzz: Disregard the fact that Paris Hilton is attached and remember how much you loved the hack-and-slash musical gore of Sweeney Todd. Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw IV) may just have something similar on his hands.
17. The International (imdb)
Release Date: August 15, 2008
Talent: Clive Owen, Naomi Watts, Tom Tykwer (Director)
Synopsis: An Interpol agent (Owen) attempts to expose a high-profile financial institution’s role in an international arms dealing ring.
The Buzz: Director Tom Tykwer showed some serious visual style with Perfume: The Story of a Murderer on ‘06, and this time he brings Clive Owen (yes, the Clive Owen) in for a thrilling drama. Can you smell a repeat of Children of Men? Let’s hope so.
16. Speed Racer (imdb)
Release Date: May 9, 2008
Talent: Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox, The Wachowskis (Directors)
Synopsis: Born to race cars, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the legendary Rex Racer, whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed’s thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company’s maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret—some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won’t drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family’s business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams with his one-time rival—the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox)—to win the race that had taken his brother’s life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.
The Buzz: Sure the first trailer looked a little over-the-top, but this is The Wachowskis that we are talking about — they gave us The Matrix. Goofy and stylized, yes — but it also could just be a lot of fun.
15. RocknRolla (imdb)
Release Date: October 3, 2008
Talent: Gerard Butler, Gemma Arterton, Jeremy Piven, Thandie Newton, Guy Ritchie (Director)
Synopsis: London’s criminal underworld takes notice of a Russian mobster’s shady land deal, a scam that puts millions of dollars up for grabs.
The Buzz: We’ve been waiting since Snatch for Guy Ritchie to deliver a rockin’ good movie. It just so happens that he may have done that, and named it appropriately. Hopefully Madonna was too busy directing her own film to get in the way.
14. Get Smart (imdb)
Release Date: June 20, 2008
Talent: Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson, Alan Arkin, Peter Segal (Director)
Synopsis: Maxwell Smart, Agent 86 for CONTROL, battles the forces of KAOS with the more-competent Agent 99 at his side
The Buzz: Don’t believe all the negative word of mouth around this film, forget about re-shoots and just relax. Director Pete Segal is making us a fantastic action-comedy with Steve Carell, seemingly the reincarnation of Don Adams, at the heart of it all. It should be light, fun and full of Anne Hathaway’s hotness.
13. James Bond 22 (imdb)
Release Date: November 7, 2008
Talent: Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Mathieu Amalric, Marc Forster (Director)
Synopsis: None Available.
The Buzz: The damn thing has not even begun shooting yet (it starts January 3), and the web is already buzzing about the next chapter for James Bond. Daniel Craig is back, his new Bond girl (rumored to be Gemma Arterton) is smoking hot, and we can expect the same viciousness that we saw with Casino Royale.
12. Sex and the City: The Movie (imdb)
Release Date: May 30, 2008
Talent: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Michael Patrick King (Director)
Synopsis: Not Available.
The Buzz: No one knows exactly how the infinitely popular television show will translate to the big screen, but we do know this: your girlfriends will eat it up. This thing, good or bad, is going to print money at the box office. It’s better that you not fight it, gentlemen.
11. Be Kind Rewind (imdb)
Release Date: February 22, 2008
Talent: Jack Black, Danny Glover, Mos Def, Mia Farrow, Michel Gondry (Director)
Synopsis: Jerry (Jack Black) is a junkyard worker who attempts to sabotage a power plant he suspects of causing his headaches. But he inadvertently causes his brain to become magnetized, leading to the unintentional destruction of all the movies in his friend’s (Mos Def) store. In order to keep the store’s one loyal customer, an elderly lady with a tenuous grasp on reality, the pair re-create a long line of films including The Lion King, Rush Hour, Ghostbusters, When We Were Kings, Back to the Future, Driving Miss Daisy, and Robocop , putting themselves and their townspeople into it. They become the biggest stars in their neighborhood.
The Buzz: Michel Gondry’s quirky flick is one of the best reasons to attend this year’s Sundance Film Festival, but if you have to wait — you will surely be rewarded. In every trailer thus far, Mos Def and Jack Black look like a perfect tandem for a movie like this. Fans of oddball comedy should find this one to be a nice early-year surprise.
10. Hellboy II: The Golden Army (imdb)
Release Date: July 11, 2008
Talent: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Guillermo Del Toro
Synopsis: The mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth, so Hellboy and his team must save the world from the rebellious creatures.
The Buzz: This time around, Hellboy gets bigger and badder thanks to it’s director’s much-inflated profile. Universal has given Guillermo Del Toro a major green light to make a visual spectacle unlike any other — all he has to do is deliver as he always does.
9. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (imdb)
Release Date: April 25, 2008
Talent: John Cho, Kal Pen, Rob Corddry
Synopsis: Follows the cross-country adventures of the pot-smoking duo as they try to outrun authorities who suspect them of being terrorists when they try to sneak a bong on board their flight to Amsterdam.
The Buzz: It sounds dumb to put this one so high on the list, but the first Harold & Kumar film was a huge success — especially with the younger audiences. There is no reason to suspect that this film won’t turn up the ridiculousness, delivering more munchie-craving slackers and more NPH — plenty more NPH.
8. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (imdb)
Release Date: May 16, 2008
Talent: Liam Neeson, Ben Barnes, Andrew Adamson (Director)
Synopsis: “Prince Caspian” finds the Pevensie siblings pulled back into the land of Narnia, where a thousand years have passed since they left. The children are once again enlisted to join the colorful creatures of Narnia in combating an evil villain who prevents the rightful Prince from ruling the land.
The Buzz: The Pevensie kids are going back to Narnia, and it would appear that we are all going with them. Fans of the first film (of which there are many) are getting very excited about this one. Those of us who were bored with the first one, myself included, can take refuge in the fact that the first trailer for Prince Caspian has tons of action.
7. Star Trek (imdb)
Release Date: December 25, 2008
Talent: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, J.J. Abrams (Director)
Synopsis: A chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members.
The Buzz: J.J. Abrams has practically an entire year to make sure that his installment is up to par, as he would be an idiot to disappoint the throngs of Trekkies that will be putting his film under a microscope. And while they may be harsh, they should also be a very excited bunch — as there hasn’t been much in the way of a good Trek film since — ever.
6. Wall-E (imdb)
Release Date: June 27, 2008
Talent: Fred Willard, Jeff Garlin, Andrew Stanton (Director)
Synopsis: The year is 2700. WALL*E, a robot, spends every day doing what he was made for. But soon, he will discover what he was meant for.
The Buzz: While Wall-E is significantly more soft-spoken than any past Pixar character (except Luxo the lamp, that is), we have no doubts that audiences will have no trouble falling head over heels for the little guy — it’s something in his eyes. Andrew Stanton and the crew at Pixar have failed to disappoint us up to now, with plenty of great films under there belt — we see no reason why they would start here.
5. Cloverfield (imdb)
Release Date: January 18, 2008
Talent: Michael Stahl-David, Mike Vogel, Lizzy Caplan, Matt Reeves (Director)
Synopsis: Revolves around a monster attack in New York as told from the point of view of a small group of people.
The Buzz: There are some that have had this marked on their calendar since the mysterious first teaser trailer ran in front of Transformers last summer. Basically, we are all waiting to see the monster that pretty much eats New York City. On 1-18-08, the lines will surely be long — so get to the theater early.
4. Iron Man (imdb)
Release Date: May 2, 2008
Talent: Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jon Favreau (Director)
Synopsis: When Tony Stark is forced to create a life support suit to keep him alive after an accident he decides to use the technology in his suit to fight crime.
The Buzz: Did you see the trailer? How much more do you need to see to be excited for Iron Man? Downey Jr. is perfectly cast as Tony Stark and Director Jon Favreau has every fan of the Marvel universe believing. This will be the first big blockbuster of what could be the most exciting summer movie season ever.
3. Zack and Miri Make a Porno (imdb)
Release Date: 2008
Talent: Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith (Director)
Synopsis: Lifelong platonic friends Zack (Rogen) and Miri (Banks) look to solve their respective cashflow problems by making an adult film together. As the cameras roll, however, the duo begin to sense that they may have more feelings for each other than they previously thought.
The Buzz: You didn’t think that this list would be all summer blockbusters did you? Zack and Miri will combine two of the most beloved comedic minds in all of Hollywood, director Kevin Smith and actor Seth Rogen, to make a movie about two people who want to start a porn company. And it stars the always gorgeous Elizabeth Banks. If you need to read that again to allow it to really sink in, we can wait.
2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (imdb)
Release Date: May 22, 2008
Talent: Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Steven Spielberg (Director), George Lucas (Writer)
Synopsis: Not Available.
The Buzz: They might as well have titled this film Indiana Jones and the Return to the Bank, as it is going to seriously pad the LucasFilm bankroll. Steven Spielberg brings back his trusted old adopted son (Harrison Ford) and throws him back in the Indy costume alongside his new adopted son (Shia LaBeouf) for what can only be described as a wild ride — and we don’t even know what the film is about yet.
1. The Dark Knight (imdb)
Release Date: July 18, 2008
Talent: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Eckhart, Christopher Nolan (Director)
Synopsis: Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker.
The Buzz: Part of it may be the fanboy inside of me, the other part might be the brilliant web of viral marketing being spun by the folks at Warner Brothers, but there is 2008 release that can get here any sooner than The Dark Knight. Christian Bale is back and as badass as ever in the (nippleless) batsuit and Heath Ledger is slowly transforming into the Joker that we never knew he could be. Mark my words, The Dark Knight is going to rule the summer box office.
So there you have it, our picks of the Top 20 Most Anticipated Movies of 2008. Let’s get on with it already!

my goal is to bone my women in the theater, maybe while watching cloverfield
January 1st, 2008 at 4:34 pm
2008 looks like a good year for Films, well, except for Speed Racer, only because it’s target audience are pre-teens. And, I’m trying to get my children to think of our Environment, to keep the planet healthy. We can only do that by urging our youth and people in power, the importance of alternative Energy sources. And, cleaner modes of transportation. Gasoline powered vehicle Emissions is the number 1 cause of cancer and a global warming.
If you care about this planet, don’t let your children get influenced by the Speed Racer movie. It’s obvious the Wachowski’s are merely creating a Movie/Advertisement to keep the next generation hooked on fast cars, and race car driving, both of which are detrimental to our environment.
Thank you,
Mrs. Shaplowski

BMJ — Why Cloverfield?
January 1st, 2008 at 7:55 pm
Comments like Shaplowski is exactly why people don’t care about the environment. I retract my statement. Instead of boning my women in the theater in 08 i will not like to find Shaplowski and … Comment Edited by Admin — No Hate Speech!

what about shantaram????? isnt it due to release in 2008??
January 2nd, 2008 at 1:20 am
Mrs. Shaplowski,
Haven’t you heard of the Tesla Roadster? The 0-60 in less than a Porche, all electric sports car modeled after a Lotus? I want one, because it’s fast, and green. The real problem is people telling teens and young people that you have to do this and have to do that, only for them to rebel and do just the opposite.
As for the films, I am looking forward to Repo, Cloverfield, and Iron Man. But a Sex in the City movie? Now that’s ridiculous.

2008 looks like a good year for Films especially for Speed Racer, only because it’s target audience are pre-teens. And, I’m trying to get my children to become interested in cars just like me to keep our relationship healthy. We can only do that by urging our youth and spouses, the importance of having a hobby, And, clean fun. Gasoline powered vehicles are the number 1 cause of happiness and a heart warming.
If you care about your family, let your children get influenced by the Speed Racer movie. It’s obvious the Wachowski’s are creating a Movie/Advertisement to keep the next generation hooked on fast cars, and race car driving, both of which are enriching to our lives.

this is supposed to be about movies not about al gore. jeeez green fever is starting to piss me off.
January 2nd, 2008 at 1:45 am
Shaplowski: Really? I thought they were just making a movie based off the animated series from the ’60s, but I see I’m totally wrong now. (note: sarcasm)
And how are fast cars and race car driving “detrimental to our environment”? Why can’t the two mentioned enjoyments be fun and friendly to the environment (such as biodiesel or other clean energy)?
Your logic isn’t making sense to me, but I’m open to being informed.
January 2nd, 2008 at 1:47 am
i heard the wall e, was stolen by Steve Jobs and his movie team, and sold. but I think star trek is most aniticapted in america, I also posted this on my blog, but with extra comments, http://www.opentopix.com/topic/movies/20-most-anticipated-films-for-2008
January 2nd, 2008 at 1:55 am
..
How is a movie based on a cartoon from the 60’s a way to discourage children from taking care of the environment?
I bet they drive cars in Batman, Cloverfield ect.
I just don’t see .. where you are coming from here.. I’m pretty sure the movie isn’t going to have a huge impact on your ozone. You’ll be fine.
January 2nd, 2008 at 2:04 am
Most of this list I find to be correct; however, you have Chronicles of Narnia, Sex and the City, and Harold and Kumar but no Harry Potter? Whether or not people want to admit it, Harry Potter is a huge film (series). Just because it’s into its 6th film doesn’t mean no one is waiting to see it. I find it extremely vexing that people never put Harry Potter onto their “Top Movies in 2008″ lists. There’s an insane bias.
January 2nd, 2008 at 2:07 am
Um… how about Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince? November 2008, baby! Seriously. How did that not make a list of top 20? Does it just go without saying?
January 2nd, 2008 at 2:13 am
In response to the Harry Potter questions — I guess it just slipped through the cracks.
Are we really supposed to get all excited over the 6th film in the series? Don’t get me wrong — I’m not saying that it will not be good and I am certainly not saying that I don’t enjoy the Potter flicks — I just don’t know if that is high up there in the minds of movie fans. About a month before it comes out people will be like “Oh yeah, a new Harry Potter movie is coming out…” And it will make bank at the box office, but I don’t think it deserved to really be on this list.
Then again, I could be wrong — I usually am. Just ask my ex-girlfriend.

Christian Bale is the man Tom Cruise wants to be. Besides making the only Batman I’ve really liked, he’s just a little Psycho- which is always interesting!
January 2nd, 2008 at 2:42 am
Shaplowski
You are insane.. Causes cancer.. We are not even sure WHAT causes cancer mate.. and scientific consensus despite what you have heard can NOT confirm we are causing global warming,
The number one producer of C02 by the way is NOT cars, i know youve got a little hyundia excel and thus must berate anyone like myself who loves fast cars, but the number one producer of C02 (which, apparnetly causes global warming although as i said, this has not been confirmed) is actually coal power plants mate. Better turn off your PC there hey.. but you know what i think the combined energy of you turning off your pc thereby not polluting the internet with misinformation will CURE cancer! (look i can make sweeping generalizations too)
Cheers
Pete

Pretty good list, but I think #6 and the three comic book movies should all be be much higher numbers on the list (in the teens), and the new Bond movie should be in the top five. New Indiana Jones movie seems like an obvious #1 spot to me.
January 2nd, 2008 at 2:54 am
Oh, I get it, its not about what movies will be good…It’s just about what movies are going to make the most money.
January 2nd, 2008 at 2:57 am
Bob — I didn’t necessarily say they were all going to be good. You are right… It is more
about what is most popular going into the New Year. Thus, what will make the most money
– maybe.

Great list…one bone to pick… there have been a few good Trek movies IMHO… 2, 4, 6, 8… but overall an excellent excellent list! Thank you
January 3rd, 2008 at 1:18 am
I disagree with “Get Smart.” Looks really dumb. Just my 2 cents.
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:25 am
Mr. Miller,
I’m totally aware of the Tesla electric roadster. Hopefullly, they’ll produce are more price friendly family version. I’d buy one up in a snap for 15 grand easily. Also, rebellious children are the products of their parents poor upbringing, My children, all 5 of them are not rebellious, they are all Mentally gifted children and all but one has passed 2 grades at our Public Elementary School. You have to present children with good role models, and new ways of looking at the world. In order to find solutions to problems us adults have created and perpetuate throughout history, like for instance, WAR, and GREED, etc,… oh this list can go on and on. I believe if we teach our children to care for this Planet like the Hopi Indians had, then perhaps we can create a better world. Much better than what a race car driving mentally can ever create.
Thank you, but no thanks, I’ll never cater to the “Speed Racer” mentality that the Wachowski’s are pushing through this movie.
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:34 am
Peter Revill,
Hahaha, your funny but so mis-informed and brainwashed by mainstream media. Yeah, and Mainstream doctors have a cure for Cancer. LOL GET IT !
The problem with people like you, is that you cannot see past your own critique, open your mind. Think awhile before responding to my comments. I’ve done my research thoroughly from Organizations that aren’t being paid off by the Automobile Industry or entities of a special Interest. I love fast cars too, but not stupid Gas guzzling automobiles.
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:45 am
Hannah and all else,
The Movie is promoting a “sport” that has thrived off the sales of Gasoline and other Industries that support our dependence on this energy source. When children look at race car driving as fun, fast cars as “fun”, when we have more dire circumstances at stake surrounding such a sport, then we’re teaching them to be unaware of the environment in lieu of “exciting” fast and faster vehicles. whoopie tee doo. Its ridiculous, seriously, there’s nothing to debate; we need to clean our environment, and stop our dependence on a dirty energy source.
Try jogging next to a race car event, yes, breath in those fumes and after several years of this get your lungs checked. Come on people? why do you defend the most obvious detriment of a clean environment.
Think about it next time your stuck in traffic. LOL
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:55 am
I seriously think that guy is a troll. If not, he’s just extremely ignorant (no matter how open minded he says he is, or she is, or whichever one it is). I believe that global warming exists, and all that, but this guy is nuts. Let’s forget he said any of that, and get back to the list >_>. I look forward to most of these movies, nice list Neil! Though I agree, the HP movie should be in there.
January 3rd, 2008 at 2:36 pm
First, nice list. I didn’t know about some of these movies and now, I too, am looking forward to seeing them.
Now for the rant.
Shaplowski,
Your response to peter revill makes me laugh. He presented a valid argument and you dismissed him by personally attacking him. Since you used the weakest form of argument I should just dissmiss you as the pathetic troll you are but since I am bored, here we go:
You think it is hard to breath next to a race track? Try breathing in the 1800 MW coal burning power plant I work at in Pennsylvania. Walk through the coal pulverizer elevation beneath the 4 story tall boiler, where coal fly ash is built up 3-6 inches deep, and tell me more about the damage the little 0.7 MW (~1000hp) motors in race cars are doing the environment. The oil industry needed a fall guy for global warming and they picked cars since they are the only thing that can receive “green face lifts” and still be profitable for them. Think about it…a car is changed to electricity and they can still sell it for the same profit they make now. Changing the power infrastructure of the US would be a massive undertaking costing most energy firms billions and possibly destroying some of them. The scape goat THEY picked was the car and people like you buy it hook line and sinker. You want to save the environment? Then take your house off the grid. Put up solar panels with battery back up so that you draw 0 current from power plants. Then you can talk about cars.
And lastly. The fake kids you made up in one of your responses…they sound fake, try harder next time.
January 3rd, 2008 at 5:03 pm
this just in, big monsters attacking a city is detrimental to the environment, dont see cloverfield, thank you for letting me see the light Shaplowski
January 3rd, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Shaplowski: So, wait, you said that all of your children except one has passed two grades?
What, do they have the minds of second graders, then?
Also, I don’t see any Hopi Indians around anymore, and don’t say it was because the ones who hated the environment came and killed them.
Cars aren’t bad. There’s nothing wrong with them.
Go to a city and look at the smokestacks pumping out tons of CO, then complain about cars. Or go to where Apex suggested.
January 3rd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Nice list I particularly like the comments in “The Buzz”, which is cool, gives some insight. I don’t agree with your whole list, but I dig it. Anyways, here is my personal list
1. The Dark Knight
2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
3. Speed Racer
4. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
5. Bond 22
Another cool list of the most anticipated movies of 2008, where you can check out a merge of a ton of the lists people have put on the net and see how they compare. You can also filter it by comedy or other genres which is cool.

Bill Mahr? Its strange, Ann Coulter can call the media out for using an anti-war group presented as “9/11 widows” to portray as the consensus of public opinion she gets called heartless all over the place. Bill Mahr can dress up as corpse of sting ray impaled Steve Irwin in a public Halloween party and its “everyone’s become so sensitive.”
Fact is, Bill Mahr’s show isn’t that popular - its a prep show for taxi cab confessions, cathouse, or whatever other late night FRIDAY evening soft core porn a puberty stricken kid can get off to assuring him that although only in his teens his mind is no more sheltered or underdeveloped than some of hollywood’s most notable liberal elite.

Jayne, I happen to like Maggie Gyllenhaal. I mean, have you ever seen Secretary?
I can’t wait for these movies to start hitting. I have a feeling I’ll be eating a lot of popcorn this year.
Shaplowski (sorry, but I can’t not say anything): three things. First, go learn something other than what the media and your friends tell you. Come on, you’re already on the internet, you’re a google or a wiki away from actually knowing something except for being a little parrot. If you did make an attempt to educate yourself instead of chastise others, you’d know what you’ve been hearing on this thread; Big Oil made the automotive industry a scapegoat, and that coal is one of (if not the) main offenders. Next, if you’re not going to debate/argue intelligently, than don’t even bother; a well-constructed argument will at least get people to listen even if they don’t agree, but fallacies just get you written off immediately as someone completely unconcerned with reaching an understanding and that you’re simply spouting your agenda without a care for truth. Thirdly, IT’S A MOVIE. OH MY GOD. should we call up every single media provider depicting automobiles at all and tell them that they’re going to destroy the world? no. Cars aren’t completely awful, and some people have to use them to get somewhere. we can’t all just hop on bicycles or buses all the time. This movie is going to depict driving, a very common and almost-universal practice among Americans and people in general. Get over it. Ragnarok or Rapture (depending on what you believe) isn’t going to happen on May 9 just because of a movie (in which, incidentally, most cars are CG’d). Please, take your flaming unfounded naturalist beliefs somewhere where they’re not pointless. Or better yet, b**** and moan about something that’s really important. Genocide, anyone? 500,000 people have died and you’re worried about CO2. get your god-d***ed priorities straight.
Phew. I need a hand massage.

It wasn’t until I saw a couple images of Ledger as the Joker that I started to come around. I can’t wait for The Dark Knight now that I’ve seen some footage of him. I also can’t wait for the Rogen/Smith movie. I read in an interview that when Rogen showed up to HOllywood and met with his agent the first time, he said he wanted to do a Kevin Smith movie.

Excellent list but I would also include The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Fincher and Pitt re-reteaming? And for a great story as well? Sounds pretty great to me.

I can’t wait to see Wall*E. I’m gonna hope they put it into the family morning thing at our theatre so that I can take my son to see it.

How could you leave off John Rambo? Put it at #1 and bump them all down.

Great list indeed, love the #1 and #2 spots. The Dark Knight as #1 definitely make sense, Christian Bale and The Joker will not be disappointing as Spiderman 3.
Indiana Jones is going to be great as usual, you can’t go wrong with Spielberg and Harrison Ford.
Speed Racer is very original, can’t judge before watching it. I will definitely see at least 18 of the 20 films, not so sure about Sex and The City, what else can they add, better sex scenes? Hope there isn’t just 20 movies in 2008, the writer strike should end very soon, otherwise we will be left without movies.

There may be some movies missing from this top 20 list, but youve got one thing right, the dark knight will definitely rule and eat up the box office. it is definitely gonna be the number one movies of all movies.

uhm
yeah
you forgot Twilight
December 12
based on the bestselling book series by stephenie meyer
it’s already more anticipated than harry potter.
because it is much, much better than harry potter.
that’s why eclipse [the 3rd book] knocked harry potter off the number one spot on the bestseller list :]
even mtv dedicated “twilight tuesdays” to give us sneak peeks on whats going on.
have you seen the fanbase for it?
the series is fucking amazing. and im reserving movie tickets for it the second they allow it.
whoever wrote this is an idiot for not putting twilight on here.
