Also, they were'nt being cheap with the superscopes. The superscopes were added as an homage to the game. They had forty million dollars to blow, so I doubt they used the scopes out of budget constraints. Personally, I liked them. I never knew one of my old toys could look so cool.

And not everything came off as “fake” and “forced.” Most of the performances, and the pacing of the film overall flow pretty well and rush along at a brisk pace, and the Yoshi animatronic puppet was a masterpiece. Super Mario Bros knows it's a silly little adventure and runs with it. And for that it is awesome.
