Ten Movie Superheroes Who Could Take on The Hulk
Posted by Fat Guys at the Movies (fatguys@filmschoolrejects.com) on June 13, 2008

It is well known that the Incredible Hulk is the strongest superhero out there. But could he win a fight with anyone? It’s been contemplated in the comics for years, with the Hulk going up against some of the most powerful superheroes.
But let’s talk movies. Would Brandon Routh’s Superman stand a chance against the green giant? What about Christian Bale’s Batman? Here who we think might actually stand a chance against the Incredible Hulk from the new film.
Flame on!

10. Marv from Sin City
He’s not really a superhero, but he’s probably the only regular human who would be stubborn enough to give it a try. Sure, he would lose in the end, but he’d put up a hell of a fight.

9. Hellboy from the Hellboy series
Like Marv from Sin City, Hellboy would probably end up losing, but he’d get some good licks in. Plus, he’s got the whole devil-as-his-father thing going on, so Hellboy might be able to go the distance.

8. Rogue from the X-Men series
You can’t exactly call the Hulk a mutant, but if Rogue would be able to steal his powers, it would leave Bruce Banner alone and almost naked with a new She-Hulk to deal with.

7. Batman from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight
First, let me say that we’re talking about Christian Bale’s Batman here. Sure, Michael Keaton could have a go, but the Val Kilmer or George Clooney versions would get completely trounced. But the “good” Batman, being the world’s greatest detective, would be able to figure out a way to beat the Hulk… we would think.

6. The Fantastic Four from The Fantastic Four series
They’ve gone head to head with the Hulk in the comics as well as in the various animated series. Everyone always wants to see a face-off between the big green guy and the Thing, but it would take all four of them to even think about beating the Hulk.

5. Superman from Superman and Superman II
Like our Batman entry, we have the caveat that it would be Christopher Reeves’ Superman that could stand a chance. The Brandon Routh version was too much of a perv and a bit of a pansy.

4. Dr. Manhattan from The Watchmen
Here’s where the real contenders start. Dr. Manhattan is able to manipulate matter on an atomic level. That would give him the winning edge over the Hulk’s brute strength.

3. The Silver Surfer from Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
It’s the board that would help this guy. Not only could he physically move through the Hulk’s punches, he would be able to tow the green giant into space and drop him into Galactus’s gullet. After all, if the planet eater could destroy entire worlds, we think he’d be able to destroy the Hulk.

2. Jean Gray from the X-Men series
If her powers from X-Men: The Last Stand are any indication, we think Jean Gray would be a shoe-in to beat the Hulk. After all, wouldn’t she just be able to make him disintegrate like she did to Professor Xavier?

1. Syndrome from The Incredibles
Here’s a ringer that not everyone would have thought of, but the villain from the Pixar classic (voiced by Jason Lee) was able to completely immobilize Mr. Incredible with his zero-point energy. Who’s to say he couldn’t do the same to the Hulk and just left him drift off into space.

HONORABLE MENTION

The Waffler from Mystery Men
If you remember the audition scene from Mystery Men, then you remember a little-known comedian at the time named Dane Cook giving his all as the Waffler. It’s not that we think the Waffler would stand a chance. We’d just love to watch Dane Cook be squished like a rotten grape by Bruce Banner’s alter ego.

this was such a stupid ass post. get a life guys
June 13th, 2008 at 10:12 am
I gotta say, ‘get a life’ is one of the weakest things you can say
Especially on a MOVIE WEB SITE when a BIG SUPERHERO MOVIE is coming out
Would you rather have him post about gas prices?
June 13th, 2008 at 11:00 am
not the best top 10 list, but clever enough
June 13th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Right on! I never thought of Syndrome, let alone see him at #1.
June 13th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
they don’t have a life to get… they’re film school rejects.
but yeah, I must concur that the post was pretty lame… I’m beginning to think that a lot of
stuff posted here is lame and now have to look for a new lace for my movie news.
June 13th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
new lace? are you a crossdresser Johnny Boy?
June 13th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Nah, waffle boy could take him. If he’s anything like an angry teenager, he’ll slow down for food.
‘Course, you’d need a lot. . .
June 13th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
apocalypse restrained a fully enraged hulk….so i think he could also defeat him…..just sayin.
June 14th, 2008 at 1:54 am
Superman did beat the Hulk in Marvel vs. DC.
He should be #1.
June 14th, 2008 at 2:01 am
The ‘Incredibles’ baby beat Syndrome, so wouldn’t the “Incredibles’ baby be the ultimate hulk basher? Also consider on 2 levels, that baby has serious fire power, but the cutsie factor would disarm the Hulk’s rage, pacify the Hulk back to Bruce Banner,…then cutsie baby would fry his head with heat rays.
Otherwise looking at this list, no one here could match up against the Hulk. In fact some have tried already and failed. An undead Hulk bit Silver Surfers head off, and didn’t even like it much.
’nuff said
June 14th, 2008 at 2:02 am
Dude!!! Daredevil is one of the few who can subdue the Hulk and calm him down to Banner and yet he’s missin from the list??/?
June 14th, 2008 at 2:06 am
ummm ur all wrong, if the hulk wanted to he could take out anyone, take a look at world war hulk, yeah…. nothing can stop the hulk
June 14th, 2008 at 2:21 am
Chuck Norris?
June 14th, 2008 at 2:41 am
Where’s Iron Man? Tony Stark made a special version of the Iron Man Armor specifically to take on the Hulk. It’s canon! Will someone please think of the canon!?!?!
June 14th, 2008 at 2:46 am
Hulk eats Galactus in Marvel Zombies so I don’t think he’s too worried about about Silver Surfer making the trip easier.
June 14th, 2008 at 2:59 am
What about hancock?
June 14th, 2008 at 4:19 am
In one of the Hulk comics, don’t remember which one (i just saw it in the internet some days ago), it seems Hulk is able to defeat not only Silver Surfer, but to get the frigging powers of GALACTUS.
So in the end of the comic, we have a Galac-Hulk roaming across the space, eating planets.
June 14th, 2008 at 4:20 am
What about chuck norris ? Shouldn’t he have made the cut ? :P
June 14th, 2008 at 4:32 am
It would have been funny if Bruce Lee was on that list
June 14th, 2008 at 5:28 am
Completely forgot Wolverine. Him and Hulk went head to head and got nowhere. No, he couldn’t defeat him but he was able to take him on.
June 14th, 2008 at 6:56 am
I can’t believe people have forgotten “Mr. Neutron” from Monty Python’s Flying Circus. He can crush entire galaxies. Of course he’s just renting a room in a london suburb and wanting to marry an older english lady and settle down.
June 14th, 2008 at 7:16 am
weak list. #10, 9, and 8 would get crushed by the Hulk. Rogue would be able to put up some kind of fight, but remember that Hulk’s regeneration is BETTER than Wolverine’s, and the madder he gets, the stronger he gets. Even if she touches him, absorbs something from him, it wouldn’t matter b/c his strength is unlimited.
June 14th, 2008 at 7:27 am
What do you thing about Apocalyps from X-Men (you forgot him)
June 14th, 2008 at 8:06 am
In short, almost any other super hero will be able to beat the Hulk.
June 14th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Dude, the new Hulk movie totally ROCKED. Id still like to know how is pants always seem to magically stretch!

Wow, that introduction of the Waffler at the end really blew my mind. I have to go sit down… or stand up.
June 14th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Dr Manhattan could kill the Hulk and everyone else on the list all at once, really. Dude’s basically God.
June 14th, 2008 at 10:40 am
Are you serious? This is what you waste our time postin!!!! Have you read comic books.
Before you try sometime like this again please ask for help.
June 14th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Let’s think about this. Superman only beat the hulk in DC’s version but in the marvel version the Hulk won. Rogue has shown that some people’s powers and thoughts are too much and she actually black’s out(juggernaut). Syndrome isn’t a superhero and I thought that is what this was a list of and besides I am pretty sure the hulk could take him. Jean Grey has had to depend on the Hulk in extreme circumstances. Hellboy? please.. Batman? The Hulk has no real weakness so how could batman do it? I would like to see Dr. Strange on the list or the submariner since the submariner has done well against the Hulk at least once and Dr. Strange is crazy go nuts.
June 14th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
This list is pretty silly. The Hulk’s strength is UNLIMITED.
He moved mountains in Secret Wars. He sustained a full-strength nova blast from the
Human Torch. He’s knockdown dragouts with the Thing, Juggernaut, Wolverine,
Wendigo, Hercules, Iron Man, Black Bolt, etc., and walked away.
Resistance to Rogue’s touch, resistant to the psychic control from Cable, Dr. Strange,
Professor X, & Jean Grey. Even beat down Superman once in a comic crossover.
The only people would have a snowball’s chance of even leaving a scratch would be Thor
and the Sentry.
If you doubt any of that, you need to go back and read Incredible Hulk #300 & the entire
Planet Hulk/World War Hulk storyline.
June 14th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
@ Warhead:
A post about gas prices would be stupid, but a post about super hero gas would be
different. Which super hero could blow the loudest fart? The longest? The smelliest?
Inquiring minds…
June 14th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Ok people calm down he basically made a list of people who would take on the hulk, doesn’t exactly mean they would win. We all realize that the hulk has unlimited power and the best pants stretching abilities in the marvel universe, but that doesn’t mean other supers wouldn’t try to subdue him, especially when he’s out of control “hulk smash” mode.
June 14th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Apacolypse would just kill him when hes not Hulk, or hire someone to.
I could see Cable shooting him down while hes in his “human” form.
Or Deadpool. That would be a fun one.
June 14th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
No Lobo? No Spawn?
June 14th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
seriously, hancock ftw
June 14th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
It’s “shoo-in”
June 15th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
1st off, great Mystery Men reference … it’s a shame Stiller ruined an otherwise stellar movie.
How about He-Man? Cartoon Hero / Super hero .. we’re splitting hairs here. He can go muscle for muscle with the hulk but gives up about 1.5 feet. The power of grayskull will be the difference maker in the end.
June 15th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
good list but i don’t see batman holding up, maybe if he worked with tony stark to make some super bat-hulkbuster armor but other than that he would pretty much end up being pulp inside a crushed batmobile
June 15th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Unbelievable, not only is there only one person who could take the Hulk, but who Marvel
need to give his own role and that’s Thanos of Titan. He’s the best villain Marvel every
created. Now who would play him would be a good discussion but I have my own views
about that
June 16th, 2008 at 12:57 am
Bah, if yer gonna include Syndrome, then Mr. Incredible should have been mentioned. Perhaps Rogue should not be on the list.
June 16th, 2008 at 1:13 am
People who can’t read and blabber about being a lame list and why not Apocalypse and sheep! It’s a list of MOVIE superheroes. Got it? Superheroes from MOVIES! Not comics, but MOVIES. Sheesh.
June 16th, 2008 at 8:12 am
Just a quick comment here, Peter Parker - better known as Spider-Man - could take him down. In fact, he says himself (in a conversation with MJ) that he could do it, but that it would most likely kill Hulk. So there you have it; Spidey could kill Hulk.
(Also, he has proven a few times that he can make Hulk laugh and thereby changing Hulk back to human form…)
June 16th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Gambit
Will just turn Hulk into a bomb
Any Hero with Phychic abilities
Just make him brain dead
Comic Book Doom
Has already done this
June 18th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Not a movie character but a comic book star, Bigby Wolf. This guy’s unstopable and bigger then the Hulk. When he was a pup he got gutted, but now he’s bigger and meaner. The guy’s a one man army who can blow mountains over with his breath(hulk has to pick them up with his hands), turn into a giant wolf that makes the Hulk like a child, he’s immortal, signs up for the army when ever we go to war(for fun), and even beat up Frankenstein’s monster. And at the end of the day he controls his changes and temper, the Hulk can’t do that. Bigby get bonus points for his wife too, Miss. Ross ain’t bad but Bigby’s is the fairest of them all.
June 20th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
The Hulk is an archetypal being with unlimited strength. Mythology is full of similar beings.
Hercules is one example.
Also, Archangel Michael would thwack the Hulk into the sea in about a half a second, along with every other superhero in the marvel and DC Universes combined.
Just 2 for thought.
Combing through biblical and mythological pantheons reveals many more.

wow, i had no idea Dane Cook was in mystery men
