Talking Points: How Does The Dark Knight Trailer Make You Feel?

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on December 16, 2007

Will Smith had an “Aw Hell Naw!” moment this weekend as his film I Am Legend dropped in for a $76 million dollar opening weekend. One factor not related to Smith’s performance, the CGI infected “Dark Seekers” or anything in I Am Legend for that matter, was the fact that the first full trailer for The Dark Knight was running before the film. Did that have anything to do with I Am Legend’s box office success? Of course it did.

But that is not what we are here to talk about on this lazy Sunday. In fact, it is time for you to come over, sit down and talk to Dr. Reject about your feelings. If you were one of those who bought into that $76 million opening, you saw the trailer. So how did it make you feel? Let’s take a look at the talking points of the weekend:

Talking Point #1: Having seen the trailer, how do you feel about The Dark Knight now?

Talking Point #2: We got to see Heath Ledger finally in action as The Joker. Has your opinion of that casting choice changed any?

Talking Point #3: If you saw the 6-minute IMAX prologue, what did you think?

If you haven’t seen the trailer, just scroll down a bit — we’ve got it for you. If you haven’t seen the prologue, it has been leaked online here. Either way, Dr. Reject recommends that you take both of these in on the big screen — and call us in the morning.

Nate says:

The prologue was a bit of a mess, the trailer rocks, and Heath Ledger was an excellent choice for the joker

Amanda says:

I was really excited about The Dark Knight in the first place, but after the trailer I can hardly wait! It seems like July is just too far away for me.

My opinion of Heath Ledger playing the joker has also changed. I was somewhat leery of him playing my favorite villain. When I watched the trailer I was convinced that he will make a GREAT joker! His laugh in particular impressed me. I think he will honestly scare people to some degree.

I was not fortunate enough to see the prologue.

Robert Fure says:

Didn’t watch the prologue and won’t. Trailer is straight up 100% awesome. Looks like it might be able to not only do justice to the first film, but even eclipse it.

Michelle Graham says:

I only got to see the trailer online today, but after watching it, I’m left wondering about the Joker. I can’t decide if I like him! From when Ledger was first rumoured right the way up to today, I was sure I liked the idea, but after seeing it I can’t decide. Perhaps it was the cutting away from him all the time, maybe it was that I watched some of A Knight’s Tale last night, whatever it is, I need to see more to make up my mind… (not a ploy at all to get more of the Dark Knight any way I can!)

Josh says:

I saw the prologue on IMAX and I agree that it’s pretty sloppy. It didn’t feel at all like Batman Begins, but maybe that’s the point? Ledger will be good as the joker, I’m fully confident in that, I just hope that everything else falls in to place.

Ehh… not to thrilled… I liked the last movie but when I discovered they were doing the Joker again I was done with it. He’s already been done… and was done well… Jack Nicholson did a wonderful job capturing the colorful comic book likeness of the Joker… what’s up with Hollywood wanting to make comic books realistic?

Talking Point #2: We got to see Heath Ledger finally in action as The Joker. Has your opinion of that casting choice changed any?

Not really… I still think there were better choices out there… Heath was chosen because he’s a golden boy in Hollywood right now with Brokeback under his belt.

Talking Point #3: If you saw the 6-minute IMAX prologue, what did you think?

I am still not liking the whole idea of doing the Joker… there are plenty of other “could-be-real” characters in Batman that can be used. I wish they’d move on to them instead of the same old villians over and over. I was thrilled with the first movie and seeing the Scarecrow in action and especially Ras Al Ghoul.

Monica says:

This joker is sadistic, demonic, and wildly so entertaining!
Ledger steals this screen.
