Finally an article with some sense. I loved all three films. I grew up pretending to be Indiana Jones, Rambo and John McLane in my backyard. I'm especially sick of all the whiny-@$$hole fanboys who bash Indy IV non-stop. Beats the hell out of "Temple of Doom" (And I love that film despite it's faults) It breaks my heart that my plan to see "Indy IV" in the theater with my dad and nephew was shot to hell because of a life-threatening illness and long recovery that I faced just as it was released. I would have been a little kid seeing Raiders for the first time with my dad in 1981 and it would have been my nephew's first Indy movie in the theaters. (Sadley his parents didn't take him) At least we can enjoy and re-enjoy it on DVD. "John Rambo" was awesome but boy was it extremely violent, and I love extremly violent but that even tested my standards. SO much it made Inglorious Basterds look PG-13. Still a kick-@$$ flick. And while I loved Die Hard 4.0 when it was released I was upset with the PG-13 rating and it's effects. (They even muddle Yipee-Ki-Ya-MF!) Thankfully with the Unrated version on DVD it now feels like a FULL Die Hard Experience with plenty of profanity and a little more blood (but still not enough for a Die hard Movie but that's just nit-picking) BTW most movie fans enjoyed these flicks, just look at the box office and DVD sales The main reason the loud-mouth minority fan-boys hated these films is they don't want to see heroes who are over 50 years old. I personally don't like heroes who look like teenagers like in the new Star Trek. Hell I'd take Bill Shatner at his age now over Chris Pine's Kirk any day (Had stupid Paramount not killed him off.) Age is just a number.

In have to agree on your assessment of LFoDH and Rambo, but I am sorry, Indy four was Indy 2 with older characters. The moment I saw Speilbergs name on the directing credits I knew it was going to be Short Round and Elephants all over again. It didn't have the same feeling as 1 and 3 and the scenerios were too staged looking.

If you havent seen the DVD directors cut of Live Free or Die Hard then you really are missing a lot. Rambo was the perfect ending to a sequal as was the last Rocky. It was Stallone saying goodbye to characters he created and showing when the studios aren't calling the shots to make money he can actually make a good hard biting sequal.

All three of those are entertaining but in the end they hardly compare to the originals. Sadly it's all about the mighty dollar, studios know they have an installed fan base for these movies so their risk factor isn't as high.

I am looking forward to Terminator Salvation, me thinks it may be the best fourth edition of any of these classics yet to come.

The Unrated Live Free Or Die Hard is the only version of the film that should be be watched by fans of the franchise. It's stupid that they watered it down to get a PG-13 rating.
Rambo 4 was a great surprise. Kudos to Sly for bringing John Rambo back.
And put me in the thumbs up column for Crystal Skull. It was great fun.

Good article.
Much as i hated all 3 of the above mentioned movies (Die Hard 4.0 was terrible..havent seen the dvd version yet, Indy 4 was abysmal and unnecessary, i'd prefer to have my mental image of Indiana Jones remain that of a young Harrison Ford, Rambo was just an excuse to show a man killing lots of people, if extreme violence is what passes as "entertainment" in our world, then the world really is a scary place), i do admit there is a certain amount of nostalgia to be had from watching these movies.
