I love both these guys. I think I like Ryan Reynolds more though.
The only thing I noticed that's wrong about what you said is that in Waiting, it's actually Reynolds' character who is lusting over the jail bate hostess. Cook's character couldn't seem to care less about her.
Not a huge deal, I'm just saying.

you are a moron, like you said it is stupid to compare ryan as a standup comedian. Well guess what you douche bag, Dane is a standup comedian primarily so it is dumb to compare him to Ryan, a full time actor! And even if Dane Cook is gay and I am to for liking him, He still makes more money in one year then we probably will in our entire lives! Now tell me whos gay. I think you are just jealous, that if Dane doesn't have the talent to be a plausable actor, or a creative enough comedian to make up all of his own material, he still has the one the best standup deliveries in the business, that allows even the most stollen joke his own and better then anyone who told it before! After saying that, I am a big Ryan Reynolds fan! Just thought I would throw that in there!

Dane cook not only steals most of his material, but his persona just screams douche. Ryan Reynolds may not have the stand-up delivery that Dane has, but it’s stupid to compare him to a stand-up comedian in the first place. Mostly because Ryan Reynolds is an ACTOR, not an uncreative frat-boy who fails to make intelligent people, with good opinions, laugh at every attempt he makes at cracking a joke.

Whoever likes Dane Cook is just as gay as he is. Ryan Reynolds is the man. The end.

Sounds like you just hate Dane Cook. Also, Ryan plays the character that is full of himself and loves underage girls in Waiting… So get it right. I like the both of them but Ryan is definately cuter. I think you secretely agree with me too. haha

I agree somewhat. I don’t want to beat a dead horse here but Ryan Reynolds’ character Monty in Waiting is a jerk. Although a lovable jerk, like most of his comedic roles, but still a jerk. He plays the main character’s (Justin Long – Dean) best friend well enough, and has a compelling side story which is far to understated. He basically battles his inner conscious about having sex with a minor (again). Reynolds also has a utterly heart warming conversation with a senior afflicted with Alzheimer’s. Dane Cook plays Floyd, a cook (irony?) with what seems to be a stick up his arse. Not exactly polar opposites, but I get wear your coming from. The only point in which Monty and Floyd have and on screen conversation is when the character Mitch (basically a ‘bridge’ for the person viewing the movie and a pliable excuse to explain what exactly working at ShenaniganZ is like) is being shown around the restaurant. Reynolds is showing the new worker around, taking him under his wing if you will, while Cook only has “WELCOME TO THE THUNDERDOME, BITCH!” to say. (Mad Max)

Now, onto the other parts. Reynolds is talented, and yes he can act up a storm. In more dramatic roles I am quite fond of him, as he is one of my favorite actors. For instance The Amityville Horror (2005) he was quite good as new stepfather George. The movie is good, all editing bumbles aside, and I think that his portrayal of a person falling into insanity is rather realistic. In The Nines and Chaos Theory he proves that he can play many other roles, ranging from stupid and self absorbed to career biased to loveable family man. Cook also tries his hand at ‘serious’ acting but it is easy to see that he is out of his medium with out comedy. In Mr. Brooks he does not stand up to the other actors that well but gives is a respectable shot. While it is true that he (Cook) makes more then his share at his stand-up routines I do not blame him for trying acting, he his fans out there and is guaranteed to make more money then he looses when it comes to film.

That said, I don’t think that it is fair to compare Ryan Reynolds to Dane Cook in the fashion that you did. If you were to take only their comedic roles, or romantic comedy characters and compare them then you might see more similarities. But they are not the end-all-be-all of ‘super doppelgangers’ that some people have described them as. Reynolds is, primarily, an ACTOR. Cook is, primarily, a COMEDIAN. There are obvious differences between the two. Cook may not be able to make the jump from ‘slap-stick’ to ‘cloak-and-dagger’ as well as some comedians but he does try and I’m giving him and E for effort. Now, I will not Reynolds bash at all, because as I have said he is one of my favorite up-and-coming actors, but try not to be so biased towards him. I am a fan-girl and have a file with JUST topless photos of Mr. Reynolds. I squeal when he comes into a scene. I have seen Blade: Trinity over ten times (Reynolds is really the only reason to see that movie more then once unless you’re a die-hard fan). But even I think that your comparison was a little bit not-quite-right. Next time please give Cook a little more credit, also it’s rude to bash people just trying to make a buck.

I couldnt agree more with Clash. Lets see Ryan Reynolds come up with his own material and do multiple incredible selling stand up DVD’s and Cd’s. I am in no way knocking Reynolds, cause i do think his movies are very funny. But you guys are like trying to pick apart Dane Cook for not being a good dramatic actor!?!? The dude is a comedian you dumb asses. Why the hell would he want to do a dramatic movie anyway? He’s not out there trying to become the next Marlan Brando. He’s just trying to transfer his comedic pressence into film. Oh, and you guys should check out the trailer for his new movie. “My Best Friends Girl” where he starring with Jason Biggs and Kate Hudson. The movie looks descent and i bet it does better then his previous films.

Give some credit where credit is do, the guy has defined the stand up game for nearly a decade now, that doesn’t happen by accident.
