Wow, alot of either "Loved It" or "Hated It" and no middle ground. I'm going to try to stand in the middle (and get hit by both sides). I liked the film, and I think I "got it," but this was definately marketed as a "comedy" and I "get" and enjoy the dark humor in it. The filmmakers could of played it straight and you know I would have still enjoyed it, possibly even a little more (hell, I snicker throughout Taxi Driver, and Ronnie could very well be the bastard child of Travis Bickle). I think the key point in this film is when the detective's fellow detective steps out of the closet and said " You know I thought this was going to be funny, but this is actually pretty sad." I think that summed up the film.

Dude, everyone has the right to their own opinion, and if you didn't like it than you didn't like it. But, to call it unoriginal is f-ing retarded. This film could have easily been an R-rated Paul Blart: Mall Cop with Rogen doing his same lovable, sad-sack routine, and everyone enjoying a straight forward happy ending. But it caught me totally off-guard. I had no idea where it was going and had my eyes glued to the screen the entire time. Half the time I was laughing, half the time I was shaking my head in awe, so pumped that a film like this can be made, probably on the star power of Rogen. The film was an uncompromising creation influenced by Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy. Dark, yes. But entertaining as hell. Roegn is an anti-hero, and sorry if he didn't fit the mold you were looking for. But again, if you didn't like it, I'm not here to change your mind.

Just a question to the people who 'loved this movie'

can any of you (with any level of honesty) say you would have seen this movie if seth rogan HADNT starred in it?

I'm sure the majority of people who saw this did because Seth was in it. And he seems to quickly be becoming the new Will Ferrell (another 'comedian' who just isn't funny) In that it seems he's in a newly released movie every 3 months.

I personally don't find him all that funny. Not HIS fault. Just with a few exceptions I don't find ANY of the characters he plays in movies to be funny. And ok thats just my opinion but i'm wondering if say they had cast.. I dunno some no name as the star if anyone would have seen this.

Why would you rewatch something multiple times when you hate it in the first place? Just watch something else.

I'm with you Fure, that movie was just bad. I get the whole "Look at how ridiculous Americans are that get fat, go to malls, shoot guns, get drunk, and blah blah blah" but it's not funny to simply point it out. There's a line between parody and satire that this movie keeps blurring. And sometimes blurring the line is great, but this goes for the easy joke at every given opportunity. That's just bad writing.

I can't believe this movie is so polarizing. I just thought it was largely forgettable, not worth getting all huffy about.

Exactly right, Robert. This fail of a movie made me say ffffuuuu. And I'm sick of the phonies who go around "explaining" it and don't seem all that smart despite all their fuckery. This movie sucks for all the reasons you gave. Aziz and the flasher were the only funny parts in the whole awful crapfest. It felt like if you made a movie about the 9/11 terrorists in which all of them actually got virgins at the end.

Yeah, every commercial is marketing it as a comedy, but from everyone I'm reading here, on both sides of the hate/love line, it doesn't look like it, so I probably won't see it. Reminds me of Arachnaphobia (am I showing my age here? lol) that was marketed as a comedy... my parents all of us kidlings to see it. My sis wouldn't turn off a lamp or take a shower for a week afterwards. I still check my shoes for spiders before I put them on. lol

Was a COMPLETE waste of time. Didnt see it in theatres and glad. Would've been a waste of money too! Other than Faris and Aziz, this movie blew chunks! Liotta was'nt even used to be nearly as funny as he can be. Just like Pinapple Express, you'd have to be high to enjoy this movie I guess. I would'nt know. That stuff is a waste of time and money too. I agree 100% with Fure on this one.
