Live Blogging the Oscars: The Final 2 Awards

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on March 5, 2006

It is about 20 minutes past 11:00 pm on the East coast and Ang Lee is accepting the Oscar for Best Director. An extremely predictable outcome but I would say that it was very deserving. Lee’s film Brokeback Mountain was truly a great tribute to the power of love and carried an extremely deep meaning for so many. And while I have not always been a huge fan of Lee’s work on this film I am happy to see that his career is vindicated in this win.

And then there was the Oscar that we have all been waiting for…

No words can really describe how absolutely stunned I am to see the Academy recognize Crash as the Best Motion Picture of the Year. And by the way, this is who I said should win. The message of the film was powerful, the acting was jaw dropping, and the story flowed expertly from racially tense moment to racially tense moment. All I can think about as the show transitions to commercials and Cathy Schulman is ushered off stage by the music of the orchestra is that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has finally got it right.

All that is left for host Jon Stewart is to close his seamlessly hosted show with a quip, an observation or even a sentimental goodbye…

Look for a full assessment from all of the Staff here at Film School Rejects in the coming days.

[11:32 pm] Good night!
