While there are certain aspects of Hurt Locker that I found irritating (inaccuracies bugged me - you just have to give up during the scene with the Barrett), Bigelow directed a movie that was more tense, fascinating, and well-crafted as a dramatic piece than anything else I saw this year. Out of those nominees, she deserves to win, even though that monumental jackass Cameron will almost certainly take it again.

I couldn't agree more. “The Hurt Locker” was a truly amazing film, and although her work as director was vastly more subtle than that of James Cameron, this should in no way be viewed as a negative point. While the technological achievements of "Avatar" in terms of the history of film are commendable, Bigelow's ability to capture raw emotion on film by cutting from images of the soldiers, Iraqi people, and debris covered streets was awe-inspiring. While sadly I believe James Cameron will undeservingly take home the Oscar, Katherine Bigelow will always be the person who truly deserves the award for Best Director, and as a teenage girl, I’m incredibly thankful that there are women like Bigelow willing to “break the glass ceiling.”

Good for her. The Hurt Locker was an excellent film and I hope this honor is repeated at the Oscars.
