Have finally watched the film and it is indeed excellent. QT is reknown for his film violence, and this was no exception - the bat-to-the-head-of-Nazi-officer scene was particularly so. If there was ever going to be a film that showed the English/ Americans what the war would have been like with the Third Reich literally disessembled in a matter of seconds, this is it. The only thing I didn't like was Hitler himself...his moustache irritated me greatly.

Pitt is always excellent. Truly inglourious :)

You are a sick person. I liked the movie, but not for the same reasons you did. Not all of them anyway. The Italian accents were brilliant, and dialogue, and the usual oddness Tarantino brings to the screen. However your calls for more violence, and your talk of how the beating people with a baseball bat was "quite fun to watch" cannot be justified. The is no way that that is not creepy. It was plain sick and enjoying watching it means you have issues. I'm not saying it shouldn't be in the movie, but for someone to enjoy it rather than see it as the ugly truth of the characters is quite disturbing to me. Your general emphasis on the violence is my issue, the movie had better aspects to it which outshone the gore by far.

Spoiler alert:

I thought the alternate universe bit was the best! I was expecting the remaining basterds and Shosanna to die before thier plan could be executed and my heart was racing at the climax of the film. i also loved the subtitles and the way that Tarantino didn't subtitle all the words. You see words like oui and adieu appear on screen. Also I totaly agree that the Basterds didn't get enough Nazi bashing time. Hell, they could make a trilogy out of this. Please do. I lost faith in QT after Kill Bill and Deathproof. The action was good, but the diaglogue felt a bit....inane. This has to be my favourite QT film for a vcery long time. I hope the next one is as good as this.

Again, seriously...do jokes fall on blind eyes here on the interwebs? I can clearly read...I just couldn't find a 5th thing I didn't like. Also, I want to know who called me a movie critic...he's my new best friend.

I agree with everything you said, but I don't think you put enough emphasis on there not being enough of the "Basterds" in the film. There are actually action sequences in the trailers of a basterd running through a hall firing a large machine gun that weren't even in the movie...I think QT cut a lot out of this movie...The film is has the "Basterds" in the title which led me to believe they would be playing a large role in the film, but I think the Nazis got more screen time.

Side Note: Some of the Basterds disappeared in this film. 12 Basterds including Pitt, the british officer and the german nazi killer(Til Schweiger ) they rescue. The Britsh guy, and Til Schweiger and one original basterd die in the tavern scene. Roth and Omar Doom die in the Theater. Pitt and BJ Novac live to the end. What happened to the other six Basterds?

Subtitles, really? You're a so-called movie "critic", yet you can't handle subtitles? Wow, I think even I could get a job posting garbage on this site.

I think the whole twist of the movie was that it took place in alternate universe. Throughout the movie, it made you doubt that it will actually end up the way it did just because you knew how it really ended historically. I think that was quite a clever thing.

A few things, mostly unrelated to the actual movie but...
10. I like how if the movie is good, it's "cultural profiling" and hilarious, but if someone doesn't like the movie its racism and offensive. Personally, in the film world, especially when played for jokes, I think anything is fair game and not worth getting upset over. But where are people complaining about this?
3. Eli Roth deserves every bit of negative commentary on him. When Hostel 2 (aka Hostel the remake) flopped, he threw a hissy fit, blamed the only people who supported him, and said he was going to give up on horror. No sympathy from me.
2. Tarantino was definitely gone with "Death Proof" which was possibly the worst movie of 2007.

5. That is a pretty big spoiler.

I completely agree about the spoiler there. Completely unnecessary. I know there is a warning, but there was no reason to have it there in the first place

Well I agree with some of these anyway...

And I realize there's a tiny Spoiler warning at the top of the page, but I think the #5 Things You Didn't Like should lose the last line. It's a bloody and brilliant surprise to see for the first time.

And the movie's awesome. QT fans and non-fans alike should definitely check it out, as it's a perfect flick to watch with an audience.
