I am amazed that you actually try to justify the gross misrepresentations of history by saying well they showed the Spartans in bad light too! You also are totally unaware of how average people-- blacks, gays, Iranians, Asian (any ethnicity of Eastern origin) may have viewed the film as advancing every possible negative image of these groups. Just watch the fight sequences after the Immortals are beaten back and Leonidas hopes he can win "against Asia's endless hordes" through the punishment by Xerxes of his generals and the ridiculous waves of kafiya-wearing, faceless and masked Persians and minotaur scene. While these image are "cool" they are comical and yet easily culturally and politically charged. Frank Miller has an interview with NPR
regarding Bush's State of the Union speech at http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=7002481
The one thing you are right about is that there are "300 ways of reading 300" but yours really seems to be narrow in its scope. Others will comment I am sure on your claims that this film has caused a paradigm shift in cinema! I just wanted to say that there is much more to analyze here than you venture.

Best Graphic Novel?

It's not even in any of the top 10 lists, fool. Ever heard of The Watchmen? That's the only graphic novel in the Times top 100 books of all time.

It's also the only graphic novel to ever win the Hugo Award.

Get your facts straight.

And top 10 of all time? I loved this movie but its not top 10 anything. you must be a 14 year old boy, lol.

Flat dialogue, a laughable score and awful narration pretty much ruin this movie.

Seriously? Top 10 films of all time? Completely changing the face of film? Don't get me wrong, this is a fun movie. I liked it a lot and will probably see it many more times. But it's reputation is running away with itself and the hype is building to dangerous levels.

The dialog is stilted and flat and pretty lame at a few parts (the "freedom" lines are sometimes delivered poorly).

As for the look of the film, its amazing. But it's imitating the comic book and is hyper-stylized. A digital backdrop will never (well, not in the next 20 years) replace real locations. Its expensive and it looks fake. Make no doubt about it, looking at 300 it looks like a painting, not a real place.

You couldn't film the Departed on a digital backdrop.

300 is pretty much note perfect for what it is and it's technologically advanced and new and different, but it is not the way of the future, not to be imitated and while it's a great piece or work in many ways, I don't think it is of the caliber of movie to be remembered as a "great film" in the way of Casablanca or Unforgiven but should be remembered for its path-paving and fantastic imagery and innovative style. There is no argument in my mind that plot wise it's rather limited, which was perfect for this movie but relegates it to a lower plane of filmdom.

All said and done, its great, go see it.
