Officially Cool: Vanity Fair Re-Creates Hitchcock

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on February 8, 2008

The 2008 Vanity Fair Hollywood Portfolio is probably one of the coolest damn things I have seen in a while. The folks at VF have taken on the works of Alfred Hitchcock in a very unique and creative way. Well, that is if you discount the fact that other compilations have been made just like this with big stars and Disney characters. But either way, this is cool. Stars such as Javier Bardem, Naomi Watts, Charlize Theron, Marion Cotillard and even Seth Rogen recreate scenes from some classic Hitchcock films.

My favorite of this collection is by far the last one on the list, which re-creates the shower scene from Psycho. And no, it’s not because Marion Cotillard is naked. She does look great, but I love the fact that it recreates the entire scene in blocks. Very cool, indeed. Take a look at the entire collection from the March issue of Vanity Fair below. Easy Television says:

Wow really nicely done, I think the best one was Dial M for Murder and Birds.

EJ says:

The only problem with Lifeboat, is that one of the main characters was black, and he was portrayed as a complete person, showing pictures of his children. It was way ahead of it’s time. That added to the charm of this early black and white film. Because his character is absent from the lifeboat, the Vanity Fair photo “remake” looks staged and corny by comparison, very fake.

Vic Coutin says:

A completely lame attempt. How hackneyed and pathetic can a
magazine become?

How embarrassing for Vanity Faire and for posterity that such
utter garbage should be published under the once proud name
of Vanity Faire.

Someone in the publishing business should be extremely
ashamed of themselves. Please quit and find another line of
work. We have suffered enough.

Kevin Gustafson says:

Seth Rogen as Cary Grant in North By Northwest. That one is funny.
