A New Animated X-Men Series – Wolverine and The X-Men

Officially Cool

I just want to know, how did I f*cking miss this? I loved the X-Men animated series. I’m one of the names on the internet petition to bring that series to DVD. It looks like Marvel will be bringing us round two of The X-Men animated on the small screen.

I am a firm believer that you can never have too much X-Men, unless Brett Ratner is involved. It is also really cool that Marvel is just manning up and calling the group what it has actually become. Wolverine and The X-Men is scheduled to be hitting Nicktoons sometime in early 2009. I am sure we will get some more details when we go to San Diego Comic-Con, as Marvel will have a booth dedicated to this animated series. You will find the goods below, watch it now. Seriously though, how cool is it to see Logan as Weapon X in a cartoon? I can’t wait for this.

If you have any suggestions for our Officially Cool feature, please send an email over to Brian@filmschoolrejects.com.

FINALLY!!!! An X-Men follow-up series that finally looks like it will respect that beloved 90's Fox series & live up to the anticipated hype!!! The fact that I LOVE Wolverine is besides the point that the trailer leads me to think that they've done all the things they needed to do to bring back this cartoon to tv!! I'm really excited to see where they go with this new series and whilst I'm not an Emma Frost fan, (seeing by the trailer they kill off Jean early but she'll most likely return as Dark Phoenix muhahahaha!), this should be an interesting take on the recent timeline of the comic book as the new, glossy Genoshia kinda reminds me of House of M...so this cartoon should be AWESOME & revamp Marvel super-team the X-Men in the same vein that JLA/JLU revamped the campy SuperFriends Series & took it to another level!

& did anyone catch the totally AWESOME guest appearance of a certain big ole Green Guy???? Could this mean we'll see other cross-over appearances during this show's run?....like ShellHead, Cap, S.H.I.E.L.D. & The Avengers?...Maybe even Spidey?......WOOHOO!!!! I feel like I'm ten again and I just turned 32!!!
  • I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooo unbelievably (or believably if you follow comics) tired of Wolverine being front and center in everything.

amen to that. Why it can not be just "X-Men" is beyond me. I don't like the idea of him being the leader... LAME!

Sentinels and Gambit. This looks awesome. Shame I don't have nickelodean and live in the UK. Also Professor X looked like Zordon.

Aye, I'm not really a big fan of Wolverine myself... I'll try and give this a shot, but if its anything like the movies(which should have just been titled "wolverine", for all it showed the other X-Men) I'll have to pass on it. Thanks for the info, though.

Ok so there's no Jean, hard to imagine the X-Men w/o her but ok I can deal with that, but what about Storm. She apparently survived the blast but we don't see her anymore through the rest of the clip. Just Emma Frost??? Please tell me that Storm will be in this new series.

How is this round two? By my count it is at least round three... really four. First was the 80's cartoon that did not get past the pilot. "Pryde of the X-Men" Then there was the 90's cartoon which was awesome. Then there was X-Men Evolution which was also awesome in it's own fresh way. I liked how that series progressed. Wolverine and Storm in a backseat roll. Awesome. Spyke was pretty much crap though. I also liked the Jean-Cyclops-Rogue semi-love triangle. The first two episodes of this series have been pretty lame. I like how the art style is similar to Evolution, but I can not stand that it is called "Wolverine and the X-Men" I mean, he IS an X-Man right? Why is it not just "X-Men" He should NOT be the leader... ever. I guess we will see how this cartoon goes. I hope this is not a continuation of X-Men 3: The Last Stand, because that was crap. I hope they bring Jean back... I am assuming they will if the series lasts long enough. I am not sure if I like some of the voices... Wolverine and Beast sound about right... Rogue, Nightcrawler and Colossus... not so much. Others it's hard to tell yet, as they have not had much/any screen time. Cyclops looks d@mn cool in the skull cap and a trench coat.

They really butchered Cyke .They basically made him more one dimensional then ever by following the stereotype that Cyclops is nothing without Jean. They basically boiled him down to just that.

He doesn't have any relationships with the rest of the team and he doesn't have a sense of commitment to the cause they're fighting for. He's completely one-note. Every time he opens his mouth it has something to do with Jean. He doesn't have any character besides that. Professor X and the rest of the X-Men don't seem to care about him and they definitely don't respect him. Professor X being a father figure to Scott and Scott being close with all the team mates he worked with all his life like Beast and Angel? Yeah, none of that is shown here.

It makes it a mystery why they even keep him around because no on besides Emma seems to like him and he isn't a valuable asset. They made it clear that he was a loser before Wolverine showed up and while Jean was gone he pretty much became a renegade member. He is in fact a detriment to the team.

The Cyclops in XM:E I thought had plenty of the flaws that he usually has in the comics; he was at times stiff and authoritarian, and he clearly missed how hard Rogue was crushing on him because he was devoted to Jean, who often was unaware. But he wasn't defined by them. He still held the team together when he had to. He wasn't useless in missions. He wasn't selfish. He also had a sense of humor. Ironically, he often had to be bailed out in the end of missions by Jean or Rogue, but it didn't diminish him. He outright admitted to other students that he sometimes screwed up.

I'm fine with showing Cyke devastated without Jean in W&TXM, the problem is I think they overplayed that hand too much and it verged on making him sad sack and unsympathetic. What is shown in Episode 20? That Cyclops was a tool even before Jean went MIA. He washed out in training simulations; he was the runt of the founding team. He needed Jean to lead him by the hand and do something as basic as blasting Magneto 5 feet from him for him.

He becomes so obsessed with Jean that the first time in his life he has some competition for her, he handles it like a dishonorable spoiled brat. You cannot root for someone who blasts Wolverine in the back when he expresses no interest in fighting. You cannot root for someone who all but exploited a promise Logan made to Jean to blast him whenever he irritated you. Cyclops was the only person who believed Jean was alive to be found, and all the other X-Men either saw his quest as obsession and/or abandoned him to his own depression. The impression I got from Season 1 was that Scott was a Never Was, someone who Xavier hand picked and coddled for years who never once lived up to his potential, who needed Jean to even be competent, who now was bitter that Xavier has now picked a better horse in Wolverine.

The finale ends with Cyclops not having to change, or man up, or grow up. Frost all but takes the brunt of things for him. Yet another woman having to do what he can't.

Agree with everything DarthBill pointed out. It's the same problem with the x-movies , in making Wolverine the main focus , it kinda reduces Cyclops in into a lame supporting character and also at the expense of other characters (poor Storm). He's just a foil to Wolverine , to make wolverine look good , the better man and Uber amazing guy, perfect at everything .

Even does a better job in leading the x-men.Seriously when Wolverine actually lectures Summers and give him an ultimatum and Cyke he just accepts like a pussy ,it's just lame .Cyke should have blasted Wolverine and called him out on his hypocrisy .Now that would have been worth watching.

This is my biggest problem with Cyclops , that there no VALID point of reference of Cylops being the leader that he should be,breakdown actually showed him to be a wimp ,loser and incompetent as a leader. What the hell did he fall from. It would have been way better and cooler if Breakdown actually should Cyke as a confident , intelligent leader and even being the better man with wolverine.Seeing him now at his lowest would had more impact.

Kinda sad too , since when you take away Cyke's leadership and tactical qualities there isn't much in the character anymore. All his left is his fault and weakness and sadly those trait are used by the writers to define his character for this series.

I kinda assume that it's only get worse for Cyke. At the end of season 2, future Cyke has clearly gone darkside. I'm assuming in season 2, him going dark side will be the reason the writers will use to bench from leadership of the x-men and keeping Wolverine in charge.

Well not all thing are bad with Cyke, personally i think this is his best costume since i'm a big fan of his astonishing costume and the addition of the trench coat look really look nice in motion during battle.

Also the writer really did a good job with Nightcrawler and Angel. But i think Wolverine ruined the emotional moment between Warren and Ororo in ending of Guardian Angel.

They also had a hit and miss with Emma. She was written great and kudos to, Kari her voice actress for doing a great job, but personally i think she should have been paired with Cyke ,where he would have to learn to move on , to maybe actually stand up on his two feet for the first time in his entire life without Jean being there. Her betrayal would have also made a larger impact.

But with the events in the finale i think we have to cringe and dread for Season 2 may bring us the millionth version of Scott and Jean, a relationship so boring and dull that it makes Lois and Clark look interesting.
