Brett Ratner’s Guitar Hero Movie Just a Series of Michael Phelps Commercials

Back in early September we brought you a report about comments that much ballyhooed director Brett Ratner made about how ‘cool’ it would be to make a movie out of the hit video game Guitar Hero. And while many of us took the rumor with a grain of salt and a shot of our favorite liquor, it appears that Ratner wasn’t just stirring the pot. In fact, he was working on something Guitar Hero related, it just wasn’t a movie, thank heaven. The project was instead a series of commercials for the upcoming release of Guitar Hero World Tour, the Rock Band equivalent for the Guitar Hero universe. And as you will see from the commercial below, it is all relatively tame and relatively unimaginative, showing the likes of Kobe Bryant and Michael Phelps thrust into a musically charged movie reference.
While it might move some units, its nothing like David Fincher’s Nike Commercial featuring LaDainian Tomlinson and Troy Polamalu, that’s for sure. Though, while this commercial isn’t great, it is projects like this that keep Brett Ratner away from the much more dangerous world of feature films — and like many of you, I am okay with that.
