Zach Galifianakis in Visioneers

Long has the brilliance of comedian Zach Galifianakis gone un-noticed and under appreciated — the man is one of the most interesting and unique comics on the market. He has also proven his acting chops to a certain extent, with a few solid cameos that have all nearly stolen the show. His most recent work was a hilarious cameo in the Ashton Kutcher, Cameron Diaz flick What Happens in Vegas, a film completely dominated by a superb supporting cast.

In this new project Visioneers, a quirky, heady indie comedy about surviving a mundane life, Galifianakis plays George Washington Winsterhammerman, an ordinary guy with a wife, a kid, a house and a boat. And every day George heads to work as a level 3 Tunt at the Jeffers Corporation, the largest and most profitable company in the history of mankind. And when a series of strange dreams are diagnosed as symptoms of an impending explosion, he is forced to examine and re-evaluate the life he’s living. And as you will see from the trailer below, he sort of freaks out:

The film made its premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival on June 12, then played again this past week at Cinevegas and the buzz has all been pretty solid thus far — it won a Cinevegas Audience Award. It is directed by Jared Drake, who makes his debut in the big boy chair and written by Brandon Drake, Jared’s brother and first time scribe.

To say the least, I am very interested in this film. Zach Galifianakis has always been such an interesting and exceedingly absurd character and I have long wanted to see him take on something bigger than his usual cameo roles. For more on the film and the fictional Jeffers Corporation, check out the Visioneers official site.
