Well of Course Jean, like all the other modern day hacks, Bay, McG, and now Cameron, if you spend enough money on special effects, CGI, and high priced actors it doesn't matter if the acting is sup par or the story so full of holes you could drive a Semi thru it. Distract the audiance with "pretty" and they will never know the difference.

Yeah Arkist, he spent like way more money on this one, so that means it is much better. Nevermind that the story is so wooden that the trees are the most realistic aspect of the movie.

Well...the last 30-20 minutes were great, really supurb. But everything else seems like I've seen it a million times before. It looked beautiful, but the story was so poor the visuals couldn't keep up. I'd give it a B-. But Col. Badass beaating up the panther was wicked sweet! The last 20 minutes get an A.

Something must be wrong with me and my friends. I can't tell, but surely, something is wrong with us. As the whole world praises Avatar and rumors about a best picture nomination are floating around, me and my buddies are left in wonder. Did we watched the same movie?

I, for instance, couldn't stop laughing to myself in the theatre. As the story developped, cliche after cliche was dropped until I wasn't longer able to take the movie serious. To us, this movie proofed once more that special effects are absolutely worthless when there is no story to back it up. Sure, it looks amazing, but hell, Pocahontas did this story already and much better in my opinion. Besides, what a horrible mistakes I counted! I wouldn't care if I was emotionally invested, but I wasn't.

'So why didn't you let the creatures kill me? Why save me?' (or something like that)
'Because...you have a strong spirit.'

I hoped this was a small, painfull mistake, but after this, it only getted worse.
In the end, I was completely indifferent to the faith of the characters. And that, no matter how beautiful a movie looks, or no matter how special and groundbreaking the 3D experience was, kills it for me.

Avatar a best pic nomination? Please.

I don't know if I can watch a movie that's not 3D anymore, that's how good of an experience it was.

I look at upcoming movies now and I think, it could be cool, but it wont be better than avatar. I was one of those who was hesitant about this film, boy was I wrong.

What a surreal experience! Going into it, I expected to see something I had never seen before, but one can hardly imagine something they've never seen if they've never seen it, right? The visuals were almost too much to handle. Cameron created a world! Who does that?! Only a few, I guess. This world in particular was just so fascinating and intriguing! So much fun to look at! 3D made it all-the-more genuine and unfathomable. I can't imagine how overwhelmed I would have felt if the story had been any more than a re-imagined Pocahontas. As for the story, it didn't feel contrived--it felt extensive. I got so involved in the story and the characters. I could have predicted most of it, but I'm glad I could--it made me more emotionally connected somehow. I thought that Zoe Saldana was fabulous. I was remarkable unannoyed by her very passionate, very savage Neytiri. As for Sam, I thought his Jake Sully was well-developed and well-portrayed, although I could definitely hear his Ausie accent coming though at times. I can't get over how versatile Giovanni Ribsi is! In this movie, I wanted to punch him in the nose--I took it as a mark of his good acting. Anyway, no, the story wasn't a literary masterpiece, but I liked it. As the credits rolled, I turned to my friend and said, "WOAH!" I was in utter awe. I felt like I'd been in a dream, so I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Later when someone asked me what I thought, I said, "I think I loved it." After some rest, I have decided that...I need to see it again. I realized that LOTR was also something I had never seen before, but I was 10 at the time, and much more impressionable. I need to go back with more of an understanding of what I'm about to see.

What was so great about this film I could not understand. Is cinema all about graphic/visual while the rest of the component(narrative), acting can be third-rate
