Peter over at /Film did some scooping a little bit ago about the impending World of Warcraft movie adaptation. The worldwide sensation has been rumored to be jumping into the cinematic landscape, but this will be the first time that real people who make decisions are doing any talking. At BlizzCon 2007, 300 producer Thomas Tull said that $100 million dollars will be committed to the flick and that it may turn out to be a PG-13 adventure. He went on to explain:
“We’re going to be looking for someone of Zak Snyder (300) or Chris Nolan (The Dark Knight, Batman Beings) calibre,†said Tull who revealed that the company is aiming for a PG-13 rating. “I can tell you that this is the one thing about running a studio and making these things that’s hard. You want to not compromise and have the right level of intensity. The story and the director’s vision is what’s ultimately going to dictate that. Personally one of my favorite movies of all time is Lord of the Rings, which has a PG-13 rating.â€
I have quite a few friends who engage in this world of spells and whatnot, but I have never partaken in the events personally. What I do know is that WoW has one of the most loyal fanbases of any game on the face of the planet. That fan base will be expecting huge things from a movie, which does not often bode well for the filmmakers. Plus we are really yet to see a great video game movie come out. Think DOOM, RESIDENT EVIL or even 1989’s DRAGON QUEST.
Either way, I vote that they let Uwe Boll direct. The guy has to get one right eventually, right?
