Wonder Woman: Beyoncé and McG Bringin’ Back Amazon?

This weekend brought us not one, but two ridiculous rumors related to the long-ballyhooed production of Wonder Woman, a project that Warner Bros. just can’t seem to get straight. At this point, we have been through so many rumors about this film, I would venture to doubt that anyone remembers when it was in the hands of Joss Whedon. Since then, it has been rumored to be a Wachowski Bros. project, among other things. Additionally, there have been countless casting rumors, most of which don’t even make sense and some of which were completely made up by fans — like the poster that hit the web last week of Megan Fox as the Queen of the Amazons.
But back on point, here is what has been shaken from the Wonder Woman rumor tree this week. First up is that former Destiny’s Child lead singer and extremely mediocre actress Beyoncé Knowles told The LA Times that she “has her eye on the role of Wonder Woman.” Check the full quote in all of its shamelessly promoting glory below:
“I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?” said Beyonce. “After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself, ‘OK, I need to be a superhero’. Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there’s also an action element that I would enjoy.”
I’m sorry Beyoncé, but no. You might have some of the look of Wonder Woman, but that doesn’t mean that you can act — and you’ve proven to us time and time again that you really don’t have what it takes. In order for Warner Bros. to kick-start the rest of their DC Comics line-up (aside from Batman, of course), they are going to need something more than Jay-Z’s girlfriend to carry the load.
Moving on, the next rumor is that Warner Bros.’ is eyeing their second favorite new franchise man McG for the director’s chair. According to a report from IESB, McG has talked about doing a Wonder Woman flick with some of the higher-ups at WB. Of course, ‘just talking’ could be anything from a casual “That could be fun” over lunch to a “Pencil that in after I finish my Terminator trilogy” after a few drinks. Either way, it isn’t really something to be taken seriously. McG wouldn’t be a terrible choice for Wonder Woman, but I think that the fans deserve more here — they have suffered through so many failed attempts to get this thing rolling that when WB finally gets it done, it had better be great. That, and I’d like to see how McG does with Terminator before we move him on to another high profile franchise, okay?
What do you think of these rumors? Would you be alright with Beyoncé in the Wonder Woman getup or McG in the director’s chair?
