‘Women in Trouble’ to Take Refuge in a Theater Near You

Earlier in the year during SxSW, the Reject crew seemed to fall in love with a movie called Women in Trouble, this hyper-real, hilarious drama about the lives of ten women who are, well you know. Sebastian Gutierrez basically directed the thing by calling up friends and filming over a weekend, something that most of us have done ever since high school. The difference is that Gutierrez is friends with Carla Gugino, Josh Brolin, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Marley Shelton, and Connie Britton.
The story is dark and raunchy, focusing on women as complex and capable as they really are. I haven’t had a chance to see it myself, but Cole’s review from South By was glowing and his video interview with the ladies from the film (and director Gutierrez) was, well, it had a ton of beautiful talented women on camera. So I’m not sure what else you’d want.
Luckily, according to Variety, Screen Media has bought the distribution rights to the film and plan on sending it into theaters on November 13th. So, surprise general public! A film actually escaped the festival circuit to get to the populace! Rejoice!
Gutierrez and company have already completed a sequel to the film called Elektra Luxx, which is also the name of Carla Gugino’s porn star character in the movie. They are also currently working on a third film – probably all hanging out on a weekend, cooking hamburgers on the grill, and making a movie just for fun that will end up getting distributed as well.
What do you think?
