Wolverine: Taylor Kitsch is Gambit!

We’ve been tracking the progress of X-Men Origins: Wolverine now for quite a while, with all the biggest casting news coming in the last few weeks since the production got underway in New Zealand. But this seems to be one of the cooler bits of news to come out of the Wolvie camp since it was announced that Hugh Jackman was coming back for the prequel.
Taylor Kitsch, who has been seen in The Covenant, Snakes on a Plane and Television’s Friday Night Lights, is reportedly going to join the production as Gambit. Our friends at SuperHeroHype broke the story this morning, saying that Kitsch has signed on for a three picture deal.
He of course joins Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth), Danny Huston (William Stryker) and Lynn Collins (Silver Fox) for the 20th Century Fox release, scheduled to open May 1, 2009.
The film will show us the origin of Wolverine, his relationship with Victor Creed (Sabretooth) and the ominous Weapon X program. And so far, the story seems to involve some great cameos from other very notable and previously unseen characters from the Marvel Universe. This would include The Blob, whose existence we scooped the other day.
For me though, Gambit is the coolest addition to the mutant line-up thus far. He’s the badass guy who has the ability to charge inanimate objects with kinetic energy and launch them at people. Most notably, he’s the guy who can kill you from 50 ft. away with a deck of cards. How cool is that?
Getting lost in all of this Wolverine casting news? Here is a quick round-up of who has been at least rumored for the flick and who is said to be playing them. Know of any others? Email me: neil@filmschoolrejects.com.
